Quoting: GuestCurious, what's the legal issues for making a Jigsaw puzzle? Find some artwork from Creative Commons?Quoting: slaapliedjePretty sure that's why Steam is so popular, it's easy to publish your games through. That’s unrelated to the legal issues though.

I don't this thing does that, though it does have direct DP ports and such, right?
My question is.. why on earth would you want a camera on a portable game system?

Quoting: monnefI own Switch, but this looks so good. Only downside I can tell is the price :(. I guess even for people from rich countries, like US, it's quite pricey. The question is; does this have Switch like functionality (plug into a dock and it pops on the TV for instant switching between portable and not portable) because THAT is the best thing the Switch has going for it.

The thing I don't get about Nintendo is that they're selling single arcade conversions for 6 dollars (like Moon Patrol) Who is going to pay 6 bucks for a game that is 30+ years old? If it was like 6 dollars for a collection of 6 old arcade games, I could understand...
The 'killer feature' of the Smach Z is that it's a portable Steam Machine, and I have 977 games listed as having Linux support in Steam right now.

Quoting: GuestAh, see actually owning a Switch, it seems to be too small to really be useful for desktop usage, at least while portable. For me it'd be all about the emulators that Linux has, and being able to play on the TV, then pick it up and play it on the go.Quoting: slaapliedjeI wasn't thinking about using the Switch to play Linux games though, I have a PC for that.Quoting: GuestSeems a bit over priced to me especially now that you can dual boot Linux on the switch. Two things 1) with the reported specs has better hardware than the Switch. 2) Switch is ARM based, so non-opensouce games won't work.
But yes, I agree... too overpriced.
But, using Linux desktop on a handheld and playing official Nintendo games all on 1 device, you can't top that.
That's not to say the SZ is crap though, because it's not, just a bit overpriced.

I still think the sexigesimal system is brilliant. Unlike the decimal, which with your hands you can only count to ten, you can count to thirty easily.
But yeah, I have read a bunch of stuff about the 'theoretical' megalithic yard. Fascinating stuff.

Quoting: GuestI considered making a jigsaw puzzle years ago but the legal issues that come with selling a game are too big. It’s like the government doesn’t want people to do things. (I think it’s similar in most countries on Earth.)Pretty sure that's why Steam is so popular, it's easy to publish your games through.

Hey if the Sumerians figured out all of that, and we're still using it, they can't be half bad, right?

Quoting: etonbearsIt actually looks like the Metric system was 're-discovered' like so many other things later on. I mean it was formalized then, but it seems it was either based upon older measurement systems, or just lucked out that they landed on something that was used, and then lost. Measurements / time / earth rotation are all interconnected.Quoting: slaapliedjeHa, using meters to represent your height reminds me of a ton of jokes that were in Super Troopers 2. Stupid USA needs to start using the Metric system like every other country on the planet. They have been trying to go metric since 1793 apparently! It's not easy to change the frame of reference you acquire in childhood (which is why any given "society" tries to plant its ideas of religion/politics/patriotism as early as possible), so the USA has significant popular resistance to any metric change.
Even in the UK where we have long since decimalized our currency (the US currency was always decimal, of course), and officially adopted the metric system of weights and measures, we also still officially use miles for distance, and pints for beer. I grew up with both the Imperial and metric systems, and use them interchangeably, but generations older than mine still think and talk in Imperial.
In case we feel too superior about the logic/modernity of the metric system (which originates in the French revolution of 1789), consider that we all customarily use archaic measures of time (24 hrs of 60 mins of 60 seconds) and angular measure (one revolution/circle is 360 degrees of 60 minutes of 60 seconds) without a second thought. There are metric/decimal alternatives for both, but we continue to use the systems derived from the ancient Sumerian base 60 number system, some 4000 years later.:O

Quoting: KelsI've tried Palapeli. Puzzle Master is the one I used to use on Windows, and it does work great with Wine. But is a little slow (well it was a long while ago when I last tried it. It's definitely the bar that is set high for a good Jigsaw Puzzle program. It's been a while since I tried Palapeli, but it wasn't quite there yet.Quoting: slaapliedjeDamn, I have always wanted a decent Jigsaw program for Linux, but it requires the ability to import your own images. This doesn't look like it has that ability? You can try Palapeli, that's got ability to import and a variety of piece shapes. I do get the occasional random crash, but it seems to save frequently and start up fast so that's not much of a hardship. It's free, too!
I'd say the main draw on this one is the multiplayer, which I can see being appealing.
Quoting: dpanterI'll have to give that one a shot!Quoting: slaapliedjeDamn, I have always wanted a decent Jigsaw program for Linux, but it requires the ability to import your own images. This doesn't look like it has that ability?Checked out Animated Puzzles on Steam?
You can play 'Career' mode to unlock more puzzles as you play or unlock everything immediately. Workshop support, download as many as you please. Create your own puzzles.
Looks good, plays great and runs smooth as a babys butt.
Puzzle With Your Friends has the interesting multiplayer thing going on... I'm taking the bait. :)
Edit: After playing one puzzle, I can only say that the controls are not good.
Often picking the wrong pieces or not picking them up at all, often not connecting to matching pieces without re-positioning the piece onto the exact same place again or even twice over, not clearly marking which pieces are locked in the correct position... to be honest, it's pretty weak.
Lets hope they fix the mechanics and add more puzzles, workshop support, custom level support etc ASAP.
Really can't recommend it as it is. Get Animated Puzzles instead tbh (note that AP is strictly single player)

Stupid USA needs to start using the Metric system like every other country on the planet.Quoting: slaapliedjeSteamOS is better than Ubuntu, for a game console. There are thongs they tune for the kernel.Any distribution can have a tuned kernel, provided you know what hardware you are tuning for. Mine is rack-mounted; so not exactly what SteamOS is intended for.
And I have to ask.. do you have gorilla hands? I wouls say (with the exception of the Atari Jaguar controller) the Steam Controller has the largest hand grips out of any I have seen. The Nintendo Wireless Pro is a close second. This coming from someone who can't use the PS3 controller for very long because of how small they are.
As to gorilla hands, I am 2m in height, with all other bits of me in proportion. Meaning each of my hands is longer than the the steam controller is wide; I also require quite large thongs, although I have always known tham as flip-flops :D
