Quoting: MohandevirSeriously, I come to the saddening realization that I have no hype left for whatever Nvidia does, anymore. Lately, it all feels like a Porsche publicity when I come by Nvidia announcments; something I'll never pay for. Even the "low end" RTX 3050 is too expensive. I feel less and less concerned by Nvidia. Going AMD asap. I already did with my Steam Deck and I will ditch my GTX 1660 Super (my son's Christmas gift). The replacement GPU for my desktop is already ordered (RX 6500 XT).I have a mix of nVidia and AMD systems. Neither are really the golden child on how to update their drivers. AMD requires kernel updates and using out of band (meaning not the standard repository) mesa libraries (unless you're running a rolling release, neither of these are easy). nVidia usually requires the distribution to keep their packages up to date so that they're easy to install for their users, but the distributions have been generally pretty poor at this.
Sorry, these are my "toughts on this update". This said, I'm happy for those that are still in the Nvidia camp and to those it will benefit.

Quoting: TheRiddickOLED 1080p VRRHonestly, I think the power profile is great right now. A future design should be a bit faster, sure. But I'd actually prefer it to be able to go fanless. Granted maybe that's because I'm on a kick of wanting things that have no fans at all, rather than more power. That extra fan can lower battery life as well.
Next Gen APU
It's important to point out the new XR2 Gen 2 chip is slated to have over 2x GPU performance uplift.
It was originally around 1.50Tflop in the Quest-2 (higher in other devices due to inc clock).
So that means there is a good chance the new chip has +3Tflop graphical performance!
Why mention this? well the APU in the Steam Deck is now below this performance level, so I hope AMD has some serious killer APU's coming out next year that can make a next-gen Steam-Deck-2 possible! Time will tell.

The 5.26 release also brings in officially the Plasma Big Screen mode, designed for use as the name suggests, on a big screen like a TV giving you a much better interface to use.Hopefully it scales much better than Windows 11! Got a laptop off of eBay, booted it up and I honestly thought I'd made a mistake and that the laptop's resolution was really low... turns out Windows 11 just scaled it up like it was meant for a blind 80 year old. Put MX Linux on it with KDE, and it looks perfect now!

Quoting: BlackBloodRumOh gosh darn :angry:Has that stopped Fedora before? It's always been my experience that they'll at least uses latest kernels. Their release schedule is generally around Gnome (which makes sense as it's the 'default' desktop). If KDE and Gnome had the same release schedules, it'd be nice for the users. Probably less so for distributions, but nice for the users.
OpenSUSE Tumbleweed will most likely package this up, which means I will have to upgrade
Just kidding, I'm happy about it! Thanks again KDE!
Sadly Fedora 37 already entered the final freeze, so I'm not sure if it'll get it or not at this point, might have to wait until 38. We'll see.

Quoting: elmapulits so ironic to see people simulating CLI:I wish macOS wouldn't have a boot splash. Like I could maybe see why it's so slow to boot... It's funny, I actually prefer a text dump to make sure my services are starting, but definitely will set up debian with a splash for others. Since you can just hit escape, it solves the best of both worlds.

i mean, linux had CLI boot screens before it was cool, it was just... what we had, no boot screen, just cli to debug stuff. (and people saw it and think: oh, this is scary! i will admit that i still freak out a little when i see the cli during the boot because i know things may have gone south , its pretty much PTSD)
anyway, some of those are quite cool

despite the fact that i hate 4kids edits
and you know what? we know the year of linux came when people get excidted about an linux device to the point of customizing the bootscreen with tons of options, the OS vendor having to officially support that feature, and those screens proudly saying "steamOS" and not windows, implying those users arent dualbooting (not that they can customize windows that much anyway)

Quoting: MisterPaytwickYeah, it's playing it multiplayer where the real time with pause could be problematic. Or it is simply more enjoyable in my mind to do turn based combat. Solasta is really a great game for multiplayer, for example.Quoting: slaapliedjeI believe there is a way with at least BG1 to make it turn based combat, which works much better playing multiplayer than the realtime w/pause.Played way back with Real Time with pause, doesn't bother me either way. Could already pretty much force full turn based combat with settings.

Quoting: audiopathikDeck 2: Better screen without whitewashing in the top edge, USB4 Thunderbolt for eGPU that could perhaps be utilized in smaller form-factor eGPUs in Docks to boost performance, Wifi6.Unfortunately I think there is some strange licensing going on where TB4 is strictly either an Apple or Intel thing. There are a few motherboard makers who have added Thunderbolt to AMD systems, but not many. But I'd agree, this would also be pretty snazzy with a Dock that just has a GPU in it for boosting up the capabilities (The Nintendo Switch does something similar).
Quoting: gradyvuckovicWith the Deck, right now tapping the power button puts the whole device into sleep mode. I don't know how exactly would be the best way to add a 'screen off' mode. It'd be kinda awkward to change the default action now that it's been established. Perhaps holding down the power button should bring up some kind of menu, with 'Sleep' 'Screen Off', 'Turn Off' options? I don't know, tricky problem that one.. But we definitely need a solution. It feels 'dumb' having to sit the Deck in it's stand and leave it with the screen on while it's downloading. Even my desktop PC I can at least lock the PC and turn off the monitors when I need to wait for a long download for a game.I tend to think a good solution would be to add a menu entry to the long press (same one that offers to switch to desktop mode) with a 'Download Mode' that turns off the screen and when you press a button or screen again, will show you the progress. With some games hitting 100GB+ in size, it's getting pretty ridiculous.

Did they released the multiplayer tho? I didn't checked in a while.

Strangely enough on the exact same hardware no issues occurred when I launched the game from my Rocky Linux partition.

Granted, I want to remark the same on some other random stuff I see with that. Like Fantasy Grounds (Classic) is marked Verified, but FGU is marked Playable, even though FGU is native, and less janky (although now with some updates in place, FGC seems to be just as workable).
Awesome bundle though. I already own them all. I really should start playing BG1 after I beat Solasta with my brother.
