The Witcher 3 was apparently never planned for Linux

Yeah, this is BS. I can buy 'it's not planned' at the moment, but 'never planned' part reeks of miscommunication at best, and scammy behavior (most likely unwanted) at worst.
But I really don't buy AAA announcements anymore anyway. I mean, if they don't want to release Linux ports, why would we should force them? We have enough to carve out our space.

Quoting: JudasIscariotAs I said it offered to run it under DX11 :) I just choose no and it runs on DX9 very well. LOTRO is one of few games I have seen very few if any glitches under Wine. And it is awesome MMO too.Quoting: PeciskTried to run LOTRO recently under 1.9.13, it "detected" I have DirectX11 and offered to run it instead. Loading screen worked, but everything went black after that.Disable d3d11.dll in the Wine config screen and the game should fall back to DX9 or DX10 mode :)

I will say this - there are many assumptions without vetting opposite scenarios in both post and comments. For example old 'slower performance' argument really doesn't matter that much for Steam Machine. It is all about package, performance is one angle, it sure helps, but is not necessarily make or break point.
Also being released after Windows can be turned around - majority of casual games really don't care when games are released. They care when they can play lot of games they want on their system. If they can, they don't really care that much of release dates. At this point it doesn't matter that much imnho. In future it will.
Overall I think we in circles with this. There are rehashed arguments without strong basis or data to chew on. Lot of speculation and assumptions.

Quoting: DamonLinuxPLSadly TF2 is now (as many gamers reporting) broken on Linux. Look at valve github, many reports and no one from Valve carring about it. TF2 after The Tough Break for me is unplayable. Before I playing in max setting on my notebook, now I can't play even on low details. FPS drop (a lot of Linux gamers), game have micro lags (also many Linux gamers reporting) and often crashing or hanging X server.None of these things for me on both laptop and desktop. I will guess - AMD?
So, maybe anyone have contact with anyone who know if or when Valve want to fix it? or how to fix it manually?

Didn't TechLand fell out with Deep Silver?
Still wondering then Deep Silver thought will happen.

I read this as "they don't have reliable developer to support this, nor they interested to find money for it. Take it as it is.".
I hope that doesn't mean they are burnt over this port.

A new benchmark video shows Dota 2 with Vulkan performing better on Windows than Linux

Considering how new Vulkan drivers are - is that exactly issue? Also it is quite possible that Linux Vulkan port still have strange issues left over from OpenGL. That's really say close to zero about what causes this.
Also I never considered Vulkan a silver bullet. It is flexible enough to tweak engines to get acceptable performance on Linux.

Quoting: sarmadI was planning to get a Steam Machine then changed my mind at the last moment and got this instead:System76 is go to Ubuntu OEM vendor for very long time.

Obviously regular gamers don't need the extra non-gaming power in this machine, but I needed that extra power for work. So, Steam Machine manufacturers aren't the only ones who started believing in Linux gaming. It's nice to finally be able to pick up a powerful gaming laptop designed specifically for Linux. I am really enjoying Tomb Raider on this machine :)

Quoting: dmantioneAn AMD based Steam Machine does have a chance to be sold below $350. And it will likely have exactly what people here are asking for: A weaker CPU and a quite powerfull GPU.Not sure weaker CPU is good thing imho, considering Vulkan and games using CPUs for all kind of fancy things, not only GPUs.
