That game was actually a bit fun. And yeah, I don't see any issues companies using prepared Wine setups for releasing games on Linux - I mean, I could even encourage it.
Unity3D game engine hardware statistics updated, shows Linux is very low

I think it is more reasonable to talk about size of potential Linux gamer market - which is 1 - 1.5% of the sales and that number is pretty much backed up by stats from devs from last two years. Let's take number of active Steam users (let's be conservative here). So by that alone there's constantly 135 thousand Linux gamers playing Linux games - and there's potential 1.25M Linux gamers registered on Steam in total
Is that much? It's really depends on how much porting cost and is it worth it.It seems common sensus for indies is - if it's Unity/UE4/engine with Linux support, then investigate and maybe consider it. If it it's not, don't even bother. Which is fair deal for me.
How to increase that number? Well, first of all, it increases itself already. Number of Linux gamers have been growing steadily for last 4 years. Not to outpace Windows gamer increase on Steam, but nevertheless - it is actual market and it is growing.
I think first of all Linux needs to get better driver wise and support wise - now, I personally find Linux pretty much standardized around RedHat and Debian, and it is very easy to support software on both these platforms - however issues arise with additional hardware and middleware not ported to Linux. Would like to point out that SDL grew as project out of necessity - devs needed open software stack to rely games upon. Better infrastructure, better supported engines, better drivers - that's way forward.

Developers of ARK: Survival Evolved facing a lawsuit from the Dungeon Defenders devs

Quoting: GuestAt most I would expect some form of compensation to Trendy if it goes their way, but I would really be surprised if Ark was removed from Steam though.I would wonder what would be basis of such drastic legal step. NCA doesn't say all work you do for next three years belong to your former employer. It just say you can't compete - and your former employer then pays you if you can't do otherwise.
Anyway, I am not a lawyer.

Yeah, usually NCA are followed up by paying you wage for three years. Anyway, wasting time in court seems a bit personal. Stupid way to waste resources if you ask me.

First of all, they can try sue employer, but it is employee who is breaking contract here, so I wonder how it would work even. NC clauses are very popular in high wage, competitive markets, especially around IT. They are not legal in some countries, and in some countries they are tolerated. Usually such contracts are on very sketchy grounds anyway.
Well, time wasted on lawyers are time not spent on game, and it can impact development. Although I think ARK will survive, considering it's popularity.

Edwin, I will just say that I will buy Shadow Of Mordor (has been eyeing it for some time now) just because of community support and communication like this. Thanks. Keep being awesome.

Quoting: NelOpenGL won't die any time soon. In fact, improvements in Mesa stack, fixing AMD sitution and Nvidia will allow OpenGL to shine again. It is beneficial to everyone to root out these shortcuts, even for Nvidia, because it helps with QA later down the road.Quoting: EagleDeltaFrom what I gather, it sounds like this is an application bug rather than a driver bug. NVidia has been removing features that allowed developers to take shortcuts with OpenGL (IIRC) and this has been breaking games that used those shortcuts. While I'm sure this is partially NVidia's fault for allowing this in the first place, I hope we can all realize that a vast majority of issues (at least what I've seen) with the new drivers are, in fact, application bugs that the new driver triggers/makes apparent.I would tend to agree with you:

But breaking up games is not a solution either. SR4 went from 40-50fps to 20-25fps on my rig.
I'm not sure what's the best to do: get rid of this total mess right now, keep legacy stuff somewhere or count on Vulkan and proper behaviours to let old DirectX and OpenGL die out. Maybe independant and floss frameworks that ease the use of Vulkan without creating havoc inside drivers is the best thing to do, but that will take a looong time before to get results.

Quoting: EagleDeltaIs there actual reference when Nvidia acknowledges this? If so, then it is really good news. Considering most of distributions won't autoupgrade to this version gives some time for devs to fix games before issues become more visible.Quoting: NelI'm currently playing Saints Row 4 and I also had missing textures with 364.12. But above all, this driver has a huge performance drop on this game, so I reverted back to 355.11.From what I gather, it sounds like this is an application bug rather than a driver bug. I played some other games with 364.12: Sky Force Anniversary, Outland and Little Racers Street, but didn't notice anything wrong. Performance wise, these games are not very demanding for my 660gtx to experience any fps drop.
