Dota 2 Reborn Launches Without Linux Support

But anyway, I didn't mean to sound so harsh. It just feels to me that every time similar article comes up we, Linux gamers, in general feel insecure about whole thing and it shows. Mac gamers are way more confident, and OS X is hardly a powerhouse for gaming. Steam survey shows Linux usage dropped? Linux is doomed! Some developer have problems with porting and deliver promises? Noooo...etc.
I wish we would be more hopeful and confident. Even if we turn out wrong in the end.

Quoting: liamdaweSorry, it wasn't mean to this article alone, although I found it odd that you found it odd that it is released without waiting for Linux version :). I mean, despite what Valve exploits into Steam Machines are, they are not kidding about what their main platform at this point currently is. Despite that, all Valve comments indicate it is coming and it is just a matter of weeks, not years or multiple months.Quoting: PeciskLet's stop act like traumatized kids everytime there's delay or something. There can be genue hold ups during development and it wouldn't make sense to hold up Windows version Dota 2 Reborn just because Source 2 OpenGL port have release blocker issues. No one is acting like "traumatized kids", and I'm really not sure what in my article or in the comments here has even remotely hinted at that.
Just keep us in loop and be sure to ping devs now and then for updates. Let's be cool guys.

Fallout 4 And Steam Machine Release Dates A Coincidence? Yes, Probably.

Also add fact that Bethesda seems to be more and more interested in green (I personally believe that pay for mods was driven by them) and launching their own DRM client...definitely no Fallout 4 for Linux in foreseeable future, and most likely it is a planted strategy move to tarnish Steam Machines image (you don't run coolest stuff, you suck).

Quoting: aLThe only reason i can think of is that a third player like microsoft + the competence have put a shit-ton of money on bethesda's table in order to damage the competence. Old habits die hard and i think ms still pull off these kind of movements to get deals daily. Some people even think they are legit movements for an enterprise...Maybe I am pessimist by nature (well, I suffer from depression now and then) but overall after seeing Bethesda yesterday during XBO show it felt almost likely scenario.

Quoting: fraghopperIt is an obvious sign that Fallout 4 will be a SteamOS exclusive. :-PSure, that's why they got good spot on Xbox One show...wait a minute...is XBO really Steam Machine in disguise? :)

I personally think that's coincidence - or just Microsoft trolling Valve big time (Fallout 4 was featured *very* visibly during XBO show). They also roll out their own DRM, so it might even be that they will deny Steam access to Fallout 4.
So it might be totally the opposite.

Either way this is very encouraging news. Also knowing that pre-ordering is very limited - even in Europe - it's quite clear that you can multiple interest for SM several times.
This also means this will put vendors more at ease and they will more effort in marketing as November closes in. Despite all Steam Machine hate going around (which is very minor and very loud minority) there's still hype going in community.

Yeah, everyone complaining about high performance game not running good on Radeon...I am RadeonSI supporter, but I must admit - de facto Nvidia is light years ahead and AMD doesn't give even good enough performance. Either they don't care or they have incompetent management.

Offtopic, but for Blizzard - I think it is hard to admit, but Blizzard is ran by Activision now, and they are very, very greedy. WoW is leaking subs like Titanic, they cancelled Titan and I suspect that Heroes of the Storm and new TF2 like game is last two PC games for very long time - everyone playing Heartstone has showed them where money is and it's quite clear where they move forward to. Big companies see huge money coming from small, short time distractions like Heartstone or MOBAs, and it is quite clear will try to mussle their way into that market, casting aside any long term prospects for PC.
They are gone. Not worth the fight imho.

So yay for choice and yay for Linux desktop.

Quoting: mr-eggthere seems to be a slight trend towards the DE being normalised across the board. This is to say, unity, gnome, kde, cinnamon, xfce are all becoming about even.This. I am staunch GNOME supporter, but that nice equilibrium of various Linux desktops is something like dream come true. We have reached standardization of desktop where it is hardly matter which desktop environment you run, as long as libs and dependencies are met (which is responsibility of distributions), you will be able to run software without any bug fuss. Some time ago I thought we need consolidation, but seeing how big and small desktop orgs keep freedesktop.org and coorporation spirit alive, It's just really not a big deal anymore. We also know that diversity are clearly not a root of biggest problems in Linux desktop adaptation.
This is good news, it points to a good level of maturity across the board for gaming and general use across those environments. Its something I have noticed over the last 3 years i have got to the point where I wouldn’t be missing out by choosing KDE over Cinnamon or Gnome over Unity. There are core features that do get missed on those DE's ( like application / output audio lvels+switching from the panel or being able to specify what workspace or monitor a program always launches on etc.. ) but in general now there are better compositing options (disabling fullscreen drawing from the gui) better feature sets, apps, theme'ing & stability its just down to personal preference.
So yay for choice and yay for Linux desktop.
