Civilization VI: Rise and Fall expansion arrives on Linux tomorrow (actually out now)

I think their graphics styles are very different. CivV colors are more muted and thus it is hard to make out what's what on map from above. CivVI is better at that. It is a trade off - it looks a bit more cartoony, but in result it is easier to make out shapes.

Khronos Group has released Vulkan API version 1.1 today, new NVIDIA beta driver & AMD driver available

Quoting: EhvisDoes anybody know details about that "HLSL support"? If that works like it suggests, this could be massive for multi platform engines like UE4 and Unity3D.
I think idea is that shader format between DX12 and Vulkan is the same, but issue is memory management. Vulkan adds way to manage memory similar to DX12, thus allowing porting code with no pain and all gain.

This is winning move from Khronos. Hopefully graphics engines will start to use multi GPU capabilities this year.

Rise of the Tomb Raider announced for Linux, port from Feral Interactive

Quoting: Mountain ManGlad for people who enjoy this franchise, but I found the first game to be such an on-the-rails slog that I won't be buying this.
You know what best feature for me in first game? Side tombs and possibility to replay levels without story. Yes, story is on rails, but that's given.

The big Wine 3.0 release is now officially available

My next GPU will be AMD because they have put their words in action - they have made AMDGPU driver official driver, redid binary one for legacy purposes, worked with community, opened their Vulkan driver and community part of developers are kick ass and keep pushing performance up.

Yes, Nvidia might have gigantic marketing and brand recognition and there's no shame for people picking it. I'm not fan of binary drivers though - although Nvidia hasn't caused lot of pain for me with that - and I want that to change.

Said that, GTX 760 has served me very, very well over these years.

As Wine 3.0 - impressive work, everybody involved (clap). I have tried to debug and report multiple games and it looks really hopeful. There's chance Wine 3 can handle even more challenging 3D games with some tweaks. There's incredible amount of work still required for Wine, it feels like never-ending story, so it is even more amazing amount of software running on it.

Turns out Linux market share on Steam did not go back up in December

Quoting: tuubiCheck out Boiling Steam's recent interview with Timothee Besset [External Link]. It sheds light on some of the questions discussed here. Specifically Valve's grand plan regarding SteamOS/Linux, challenges of getting big AAA devs on the platform etc.
This deserves it's own article no?

Turns out Linux market share on Steam did not go back up in December

My personal approach has long been concentrating on improving ecosystem, buying Linux games and supporting vendors who support Linux platform.

As for actual share of Steam users - while that number might cause mild depression, I am still maintaining actual sales numbers and developer engagement and feel about community matters more. Let's be frank - being a bit over 1% didn't made any big publisher to dip into SteamOS, why would now be any different.

I also agree that just pushing articles for those numbers feels useless. What about having regular reviews of performance, ecosystem, issues and how to solve them? How about best sims on Linux? Best horror games? Best RPGs? Best online games?

Give some meaty articles.
