Egosoft have confirmed that X4: Foundations will be on Linux

This is absolutely exciting! I hope the game will be a great success for Egosoft after their bad luck with "Rebirth" on release. I played the X3 games, loved them.

What are you playing this weekend and what do you think about it?

I like this kind of article because there is always something new to discover in the comments.

Although I am a diligent reader of GOL, "The Dwarves" and "Rise of Titans" were new to me! Wishlisted instantly.

I have so many games to play but since I'm a strategy game fan most of them require some working brain to play them - ideal for weekends when you are not exhausted from work. But the sun is just too inviting and we had nice rain the last days so it's all green and not too hot.

Stellaris, Pillars of Eternity, Age of Wonders III, Shadow Tactics... have to wait. So I'm probably playing again during the week on evenings some Slay the Spire and Euro Truck Simulator 2 where you can perfectly listen to some podcasts or music while playing and not thinking too hard. :D

RocketWerkz to seriously consider a Linux version of 'Stationeers' with more sales
27 Jun 2018 at 6:30 pm UTC

The devs said in the thread linked above on January 4:

The current sales are ~16000 copies. There are over 50k wishlists. Less than 100 of the wishlists are for OSX/Linux (although that stat isnt perfect).
I thought about wishlisting the game after watching it on Twitch but nowadays I prefer to only wishlist games if they are available on Linux or if there are any hints the devs might release a Linux version. Otherwise my wishlist (with already over 200 entries again) would not be very helpful for me as a tool to remember myself about games I might want to buy.

Beyond Blue is an undersea exploration game from the developer of Never Alone

This looks interesting. If the game captures the diversity of ocean life (perhaps even scientifically correct!) and combines it with interesting and usable game mechanics it really could be(come) something awesome.

Wishlisted with a faint hope it might come to Linux, I probably can de-wishlist Subnautica now.

We've teamed up with GOG for another fantastic giveaway: Surviving Mars & Iconoclasts

Surviving Mars because after beating the end boss and surviving Windows I leveled up only to realize that this next level called Linux isn't a challenge at all.

winepak, a project to get Windows games packaged with Wine & Flatpak for an easy Linux installation

I played Starcraft 2 and Hearthstone quite a while (several years) via Wine on Linux - obviously without getting banned.

I remember those rumors but I think bans were either errors by Blizzard or had other (valid or invalid) reasons.

The nice thing about PlayOnLinux is that Wine doesn't need to be installed system-wide to use it. PlayOnLinux will display an error message about missing Wine but you can just dismiss it.

You can just and only use the different Wine versions you can download directly via the PlayOnLinux client itself which get only "installed" (= copied) in prefixes in your /home not system-wide. You have to start Windows programs after that via the PlayOnLinux client of course but with the advantage that if you close PlayOnLinux all Windows programs are closed too and no other Windows programs can be running while PlayOnLinux is closed. This mitigates some problems with a system-wide installed Wine like security problems or installed Windows programs interfering with your Linux programs.

Want to play Track Mania Nations Forever on Linux using Wine? There's a snap for that
13 Jun 2018 at 3:37 pm UTC

Nice idea but Track Mania Nations Forever seems to work really well with the version you can download from the Trak Mania website. I just tried it. Installed a new Wine 3.7 prefix with PlayOnLinux and the game installs and runs without making any Wine configuration adjustments.

PlayOnLinux has an installation script for Track Mania Nations Forever but it doesn't seem to work. But as mentioned above: It's not necessary at all for this game.

But Snaps or Flatpaks for other Windows games which require some sort of special Wine configurations or additional libraries (normally installed via Winetricks e.g.) would be really great.

Forging a kingdom through conquest — thoughts on A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia

Wow, such an extensive review! Thanks! My conclusion: No new game mechanics (which is bad if you searched for new ones or which is good if you want tested and well working mechanics) but nice graphics and another historical setting/flair.
