NVIDIA stable driver 575.57.08 released for Linux
4 Jun 2025 at 6:34 pm UTC

I bought an RTX 5060 Ti and a bunch of computer components a month ago, and I finally made time to build it this past weekend, and I guess my timing was great because this driver's release meant that I didn't have to wait at all to get my new computer working.

29 games are getting delisted from GOG

Quoting: Liam DaweOxenfree was itch.io, not GOG.
My point was that these (granted, only) two data points are showing a weird trend of games getting delisted from online stores that presumably don't cost them anything for existing on, and I was wondering if there was some bigger thing happening.

First Oxenfree, now these games. Is there something going on?

The creator of Lutris has joined up with Playtron for PlaytronOS

I use Lutris, and it has been more or less fine, but I guess I'm hearing that it won't be updated anywhere near as frequently in the future. Should I be looking for an alternative?

Black & White (2001) open source game engine sees a first release

I remember trying to train my ape to throw rocks. I would hand him a boulder, then pick one up myself and chuck it.

After a couple of throws, the ape would get this "Ah, hah! I got it!" face, then...toss the boulder in its hands behind it, and run off.

I followed, only to find the ape picking up a horse and throwing it, then looking at the camera like, "Did you see that? Are you proud of me?"

And I felt bad because the only way to provide negative reinforcement was to slap your creature.

I still have my copy of the game, and I might need to check out this project. Thanks!

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) Beta released
17 Apr 2024 at 11:51 am UTC

Quoting: fenglengshunFor me, Ubuntu and anything Ubuntu-based just feels archaic. I've hopped on the NixOS and Universal Blue (Bazzite and Bluefin/Aurora primarily) train, and nowadays I can just define my system through a config file. uBlue goes even further with enabling creating whole distro image and ISOs with all of my configs in it.
I have been using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and planned to upgrade to 22.04 LTS when I was done with a project (and maybe by the time I am done I just go to 24.04 LTS). I have not heard of NixOS, but it sounds kinda awesome?

It sounds like they took the idea of DevOps and applied it to your personal operating system.

I'm not sure if I'll make time to learn it and might just stick with Ubuntu, but thanks for bringing it to my awareness.

It's itch.io Creator Day where they take no cut of sales
18 Mar 2023 at 1:23 pm UTC

I never participate in sales, but for Creator Day I decided to put my own game on "reverse" sale (so you could pay 50% more for Toytles: Leaf Raking [External Link] (er, and let me know if you would rather I not link to my sale directly here), my leaf-raking business simulation strategy game) and with the caveat that I generally sell less than a handful of copies of a game in a given year, yesterday alone I sold more copies than I have in each of the last two years.

Plus itch allows buyers to pay more than asking price if they want, and so I've even gotten tips from those sales on top of the temporary bump in price.

Granted, I think each person who bought it was someone who knows me personally, so I don't anticipate the gracious tips to keep coming, but I think I'm a fan of itch.io's Creator Day. B-)
