Valve are asking for help testing "ACO", a new Mesa shader compiler for AMD graphics

Quoting: MohandevirHad an MSI RX580 Armor 8gb for 6 months before it died on me. It was a heat generator and noisy as hell, but performances were awesome. I put the failure on MSI's bad design choices though.

Next build (around christmas), if AMD as something to offer comparable to the GTX 1660ti (performance, price and TDP), I might give another chance to AMD in another brand (Gigabyte or Sapphire).
I've had my Sapphire factory OC'd RX480 for several years now. Sure it puts out quite a lot of heat and can get little bit noisy under constant load but its been good card to own, well built and it still delivers (I can play most of the titles I own/play in 1440p and get ~60fps in reasonable detail). Drivers have been solid in recent years and overall I've been very happy with my investment and can highly recommend Sapphire cards.

Asked for full refund. Here's how they replied:

Hey there xxxx,

Unfortunately ArtPlay and 505 Games are not offering refunds, so we are only able to change your platform. You can provide further feedback to the team directly by posting on the Official Bloodstained Forum or the Bloodstained Discord server. We’re sorry for the trouble; please let us know if you have any other questions.
Bunch of scammers.

Edit:

Not offering refunds? Well, they sure are not offering me what I was promised and what I payed for. I don't want to give feedback to team via forums or discord, I want either what was promised, or my money back.
Hey xxxx,

If you have further inquiries the best course of action is to talk to Artplay and 505 Games directly through their forums or Discord server. We unfortunately cannot provide the any further assistance from here unless you need us to change the choice of platform.
They clearly have no intention to refund people their money. Smart move to outsource customer "service" to some random company, and make them forward people to forums or other mediums where they can be silently ignored or moderated. This whole thing is starting to look shady af if you think about it. There's like three or four companies all supposedly doing something with the project, yet in three(?) years they've managed to come up with disappointing and unimpressive tech demo (they call it beta) with the millions they got. Nothing else. Sure there was curse of the moon but it was done by Inti (who are more or less known to deliver). I thought it was nice that WayForward joined the crew to fix bugs and polish things up, but maybe they are actually there to deliver something playable (fixing the whole mess?) so that people would not come after everyone with torches and pitchforks.

I've had enough of this crowd funding bs.

Feral Interactive are teasing another Linux port, so that's two titles not yet announced
13 Feb 2018 at 3:18 pm UTC

Gimme shelter appears in at least three Scorsese movies: Goodfellas, Casino and The Departed. These are all movies that have something to do with organized crime, mafia, you know all the Scorsese stuff. Scorsese has also directed a Rolling Stones biography named Shine a light.

Also, a long, long shot but.. The Hellacopters from Sweden and Turbonegro from Norway have both covered Gimme shelter. Maybe something relating to Scandinavia? Vikings? By gods it must be God of War 2018! First time on PC, and exclusively for Linux! ;)

It's time to bug Feral Interactive about future port requests once again

Tekken 7, Skyrim SE and Fallout 4. No other reasoning but personal preference (+ the infinite playtime one can invest in those three). I would also like to see all those promised ports that never came to be, like Witcher 3, happen. Dark Souls, no matter if it's remastered or III, giev. If I had to pick one, it would be Skyrim.

Quoting: MyeulCInterestingly, the game runs fine most of the time on my under-speced computer (you can check my config, but in case it changes: 4GB RAM, 6870, E5472@3GHz). The framerate seems to be locked at 30FPS, which doesn't seem to be an issue, as it looks smooth. It does however dip below sometimes, and this seems to be more and more frequent the longer I play in the same session. In those cases, I look upwards, it helps.

I have some issue with occasional freezes, which are probably due to shader compilations. I hope the Mesa shader cache will help here.
Interesting. With my Phenom x6 @3.3GHz and RX480, it also looks like framerate is locked to around 30FPS. I have VSYNC on and 59.95 refresh rate. Nothing I do seems to change the FPS (except SSAO which makes the game unplayable). I first thought I'm CPU limited, but using gallium hud I can clearly see that first three or four cores are only around 40 to 50 percent used and the rest even lower. I use schedtoold and the game should be able to use at least 75% of CPU time and has higher priority. I actually though initially that this game has 30FPS lock but apparently it doesn't? I haven't experienced frequent drops in framerate though, and the worst I've seen was 22 FPS in a heavily crowded are. I did try without VSYNC, and got a 10 to 15 FPS increase in some areas, but I get random crashes when the card starts to render intro videos etc at 2000+ FPS.

Played for an hour or so, everything good so far. Framerate is good enough, considering my rig is CPU-limited. Running slighty OC'd Phenom x6 @3.3GHz and RX480 (linux-ck 4.8 + mesa-git) and I get more or less solid 30fps at 2560x1440 with normal settings + AA & AF. Not a single rendering glitch or anything like that, game looks perfect. So.. It certainly looks like an awesome port so far, big thanks to Feral (bought it directly from your store)!

Through the Woods no longer coming to Linux due to platform-specific technology

Quoting: nakoyuSo it is true that they are using DirectX? Then it should not come as a suprice that Mac and Linux would not be supported, *and that it will never be in the future either*.
They had a working demo for Linux and Mac which was released the same time as public demo for Windows. I suspect their plan originally was to develop both DirectX and OpenGL renderers, and in the long run couldn't keep the OpenGL one up to speed with the DirectX one. The usual problem with maintaining two code paths.

Quoting: skryThey offered me a refund. Still, I'm really, really disappointed but let them keep that 15USD just because the game itself deserves it.
I don't know what the game deserves, but the community deserves to at least have people who pull moves like that pay back the money. If nobody goes and gets their refund, the message is you can pull stunts like this and keep the cash. I think your sentiment is misplaced and would strongly hope that others will not "let them keep that 15USD".
It's all about personal preference. I think the game is worth the money and I probably would have backed it even without the promise of Linux version. They are offering refunds so I don't see a huge problem here, even though I do think it's a dick move from them. They can keep my money this time, but I doubt I'll be supporting them with their future endeavors. Regarding my sentiment, I paid for a game I want and that's all there is to it. Their actions, however, are the reason why I tipped Liam about this.

Anyway, judging by the few emails we exchanged, I don't think they did this on purpose. I got an impression that this is once again result from inexperienced developers promising something they do not quite understand what it means in practice. It's a small team, and at least they are still considering to make the port happen. Going after them with pitchforks and torches probably won't motivate them that much. Push them hard for answers, let them know how you feel about their actions and get the refund if you feel it necessary. That's all there is to it, no need for extra fanaticism.

Quoting: KimyrielleThe amount of devs using Windows-only middleware to develop a game with and still expect it to magically compile in Mac and Linux down the road is really mindblowing.
It doesn't actually say it is middleware. The term used is actually so vague that it screams bullshit bingo at me. Sounds more like an excuse to not have to build and test another two builds during development and wonder about whatever happens afterwards.
I asked. They're using DirectX for all the new bling. They also said something about problems with their Unity version but it all sounded more like excuses than real reasons.

Quoting: emphyTBH, I am more interested in how they treat the people who take them up on the offer mentioned in the mail. Will they give a refund to the mac/linux users?
They offered me a refund. Still, I'm really, really disappointed but let them keep that 15USD just because the game itself deserves it.
