A small update on the status of BATTLETECH for Linux
24 Aug 2018 at 5:59 pm UTC

1.2 Beta update out - no news on Linux.....

Also what I don't understand is where the issues are arising from as the beta ran errorless for me, combat only...

Quoting: Luke_NukemI've been addicted to this for a while now - playing on macOS.
The game is everything you could hope for, and more.
How's the performance on macOS?
It's... reasonable. I had to turn anti-aliasing off, and reduce effects details - but you know, running on a MacBook Pro with an RX560, and probably with the last openGL version whatever that was. It's good enough for a game or two.

I fully expect the Linux performance to be kilometers ahead.
It’s a metal game... And that’s what you’ll get out of a 560, it’ll be the same on windows.
Oh cool! \m/.

But yeah, honestly though, even with a few deets turned off or down, it still looks great and runs fantastic. Super enjoyable game.
Yes I to my shame have been playing it on Windows.... (actually the one reason I have booted up windows in the last months....
Given that the Linux beta on steam was months away it appears really really odd that it will take so long to finish the last bits (at that time I ran into few problems)....

also performance is really poor IMHO, i have a laptop with i7 and gtx1060 and it struggles to get to any decent frame rate unless you turn down effects as described (handles most other things just fine), gpu seems to be stressed 100% all the time....

A bunch of Feral Interactive Linux ports may be broken on Arch and others, here's a possible workaround

Quoting: AnjuneI found a workaround that works here: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/70k7t9/mad_max_wont_run_on_slackwarecurrent_steam/ [External Link]

Basically, cd to the game's lib directory and run ln -s x86_64 . -- worked with Life is Strange and Shadow of Mordor, haven't tried any others yet.

Edit: Tried on Ubuntu 17.10
Thanks! Worked for all my currently installed Feral games, including Dirt Rally which I recently bought and haven't played yet so that makes me really excited :)

Oh, and the last line should be
$ ln -s x86_64/* .
Didn't work without the asterix for me.
"hmm worked in Hitman but not in Total War Warhammer...."

now fixed, only use one fix I tried the LD path and the ln -s x86_64 at the same time and that did not work at all

anybody had success on that with Ubuntu 17.10?

thanks

Quoting: themixturemediaI would really love to see him help the guys at Harebrained Schemes to bring the port of Battletech to Linux sooner. I tried to play it with Wine and the graphics are really bad right now. I think he would do a great job helping with the port.

maybe drifting off topic but what settings did you use to get it running on wine ?

Quoting: Guestworks fine for me. AI turns could be quicker. That's about it.
This is the exact issue! Has anyone compared AI turns on Windows and Linux? This where I would hope to get a real improvement - it does seem to think and think....

Graphics are nice but its turned based civ and really should look like this: [](http://www.mobygames.com/game/win3x/sid-meiers-civilization/screenshots/gameShotId,46924/)

And in other news....: Civ was supposed to be an RTS [External Link]!
