Death Stranding is my all time favorite game. The world building, story, acting, cut scenes, visuals, and gameplay are all exceptional.

HORI Steam Controller releases in the USA in December

Quoting: RavenWingsLooks alright, but its time for Valve to release the Deck-controls as a standalone-controller. Everything else just feels backwards at this point.
Take the Steam Deck, remove the display, stick the remaining halves together, and there you go, the Steam Controller 2. It would literally be that simple.

Manjaro Linux want your system info with their new data collection tool

Quoting: Mountain ManWith all this doom and gloom talk about the end of Manjaro, I have to ask, what's the best alternative?

(Of course every Linux distro seems to be surrounded by pronouncements of its impending demise, but it rarely comes to pass.)
Gentoo.

I know that feels like a meme, but it's really not. This thing is rock solid stable like a mountain, and man switching to it was the best choice I ever made. I don't even get all those little "odd bugs" you normally get on other distros.

You compile all the packages yourself which means you can patch out forced telemetry yourself or disable it at compile time (I do this for KDE). Binary packages are available now, but you lose some customizability.

Anything done in a way you don't like can basically be changed, no questions asked.
I ran Gentoo many years ago and found it to be rather labor intensive and too easy to break even with a routine update. I imagine things have changed in the past 15 years, but I also have no compelling reason to abandon Manjaro at the moment since it has always just worked for me. I suppose that's boring to people who like to constantly tweak and tinker, but these days, I really don't mind boring!

KDE Plasma 6.3 will show when apps are killed due to out of memory (OOM)

I suppose there are use cases where someone on an older computer has limited RAM, or they're running Linux on a Mac with Apple insisting that 8GB RAM is just as fast and efficient as 16GB, and no option for the user to expand it without buying a new computer. But then I would recommend a lighter weight desktop environment in those cases. KDE is fantastic, but it does need a reasonably modern computer for best results.

Linux hits exactly 2% user share on the October 2024 Steam Survey
2 Nov 2024 at 3:42 pm UTC

Quoting: LamdarerAlso very interesting that the "Language(Linux)" information seems to be wrong, with English sitting at 97.44% and Russian, German, Simplified Chinese all at >4% alone we have more than >100% of languages used on Linux.
I wonder if that is just an error on Valves side or maybe Valve is now counting all enabled languages for Linux systems (in that case values above 100% would obviously make sense).
Does it count people who use more than one language when playing games?

EA / Respawn now block Apex Legends from running on Linux and Steam Deck
31 Oct 2024 at 11:05 pm UTC

Quoting: WYWLooking at the Steam reviews it looks like Apex is dying. It's been getting massive negative reviews since July, 43% positive reviews in the last 30 days. And 33% positive reviews so far today since this news dropped.

Looks like they are panicking and trying to find any easy solution to their bad image, but they just created more bad press in doing so.

Lifetime ratings are now at 68% which is "mixed" and will be turning off new players looking for a new game.
Judging a game's quality and popularity based on Steam reviews is a fool's errand. Despite Valve's best efforts, they remain far too easy to manipulate.

As a Linux user, you should know that "old" means "thoroughly tested and stable".

Quoting: scaineI'd never even HEARD of "Mura" before. This Reddit post [External Link] is an excellent explainer though.
me neither! Thank you for the link. I've never gamed on any oled panel before (my tv is oled, but we only watch movies/shows on that) ... my desktop gaming computer is non-oled, and I have a regular ol lcd steam deck.
It strikes me as one of those issues that people who look at their screens with a magnifying glass obsess over.
