Talos Principle & Serious Sam 3 getting Vulkan updates, Serious Sam 4 will be on a much improved engine

Quoting: lejimsterI really hope Croteam thought this Vulkan update through and it provides real performance improvements over OpenGL, because it really needs it on Serious Sam and The Talos Principle. OGL performance is mediocre on my R9 270 compared to DirectX. The most annoying thing are the fps hitches when you first load a level, but Serious Sam 3 was frankly unplayable even at the lowest settings for me on Linux.. So I haven't been able to enjoy that game yet.[/quot

Quoting: linuxgamerFor me Talos and Serious Sam 3: BFE had a quite low performance. Talos went well as there is very few time depending action, but it was not possible to play a FPS like SS3, so I preferred to get a refund.
Really? I played the demo of The Talos Principle and was getting a solid 60 FPS.
The disparity between some gamers reporting excellent Talos performance and others reporting poor performance is probably AMD/Catalyst. Remember AMD is quite bad at OpenGL, and are putting their hope into their AMDGPU open source driver for correcting that.
That may be true. I'm rocking an Nvidia card, a GTX760, to be exact. It's a great little card.

Company of Heroes 2 to get first Linux expansion and Linux to Mac multiplayer on January 28th

Quoting: leillo1975I bought this title in a Bundle a year ago (sorry Feral), but I don't play with it in Windows yet. If I play this game the next week count like a linux buy?
If a Linux option is not specifically selectable at the time of purchase then it will almost certainly be counted as a Windows purchase since Steam keys are platform specific. This is why you should always make your purchases through Steam for Linux or at the official site, assuming Linux can be selected as your platform of choice.

Quoting: Mountain ManHonestly, I couldn't be happier with the current state of Linux gaming.
Impressive attitude, unfortunately I'm kind of the guy that always wants more. So there is always a way to become happier :).
Well, I did say the current state of Linux gaming. Of course there's room for improvement, and I hope the momentum continues until every developer supports Linux by default, but at this particular point in time, I really couldn't be happier with the current state of things. Sure, there are some gaps in my gaming library that I'd love to see filled, but that's a hell of an improvement from three-years ago (or a decade ago!) when the idea of a "Linux gaming library" was laughable. We're finally at the point where a hardcore gamer could use Linux exclusively and have more than enough games to keep him entertained for years.

So I'll say it again, I couldn't be happier with the current state of Linux gaming.

:D

Cities: Skylines Snowfall expansion announced, winter is coming

So the features say "a new winter themed map". Does this mean that the weather in the expansion will not be dynamic?

Door Kickers 2 strategy game announced, Linux support confirmed too
18 Jan 2016 at 11:07 pm UTC

I like Door Kickers, but it sometimes feels more like a puzzle game than a strategy game. Too many times, it feels like you're trying to find the golden path through a level instead of using your creativity to overcome each challenge in a novel way.

Medieval II: Total War Collection released for Linux & SteamOS

This is one game that has not aged well at all, the UI even at 4K resolution is massive and looks quite washed out because of stretching
Isn't this a good thing? Looking washed out isn't great but the fact that the UI scales/stretches at all needs applauded.
Not really. That's pretty common for older games that weren't designed for a wide range of resolutions. When Medieval II was release, 1024x768 was pretty much the standard.

Medieval II: Total War Collection released for Linux & SteamOS

I've been quite happy with Empire. It's the first Total War game I've ever played, but everything I've read suggests that it's where the series peaked (either Empire or Shogun II, depending on who you ask).
