Valve has boosted their Linux ranks by hiring another developer to work on open source graphics

Quoting: DuncYou don't attack an overwhelmingly superior enemy straight out of the box; you build your strength and gradually eat away at his defences until you've evened out the odds.
I like your analogy, however I think you also have to be careful about your enemy gaining territory and strength while you mess around learning basic strategy. Unlike many games, the enemy AI in this "reality" game tends to be quite aggressive.

The Fall Part 2: Unbound to release with Linux support on Feb 13, new trailer has arrived

I am stoked for this. The game mechanics of the first one felt like an unusual mix of point & click, but with some action. However, the world-building was brilliant and the gameplay worked just fine to deliver the story.

Quoting: Avehicle7887Wasn't this the game that ends with a cliffhanger with the first one?
Kind of a cliffhanger. The first story felt complete enough to me but definitely left me wanting a sequel.

Looks like the Linux market share on Steam went up in January

Quoting: Purple Library GuySo the Valve people may or may not actually know the platform information that the Steam binary must obviously have.
Yeah, it is too bad that Valve is so short on cash and no software developers want to work for them. Otherwise, a more tech-savvy company could hire someone for a week to write something into the client.

Warriorb, a challenging 'spline-scroller' platformer will have Linux support, looks interesting

Looks interesting. I hope the gameplay balance is good. I don't mind a challenge but difficulty for its own sake is rarely much fun.

I went to steam and noticed

"Release Date: Not Yet"

Well played...

Quoting: GustyGhostIf it doesn't matter to you when it's going down, then why does it matter when it's going up?
Well, to be consistent with my comment that you quoted, it is still statistical garbage. Never trust statistics that you can't check yourself. There is a reason that science is peer-reviewed.

InnerSpace from PolyKnight Games & Aspyr Media launches with day-1 Linux support, some thoughts
5 Feb 2018 at 11:47 pm UTC

Quoting: CheesenessFWIW, I also reached out to the developers a bit over a week ago to let them know, and it sounded like it was something that Aspyr needed to sort out.
Sorry to miss your message. Thanks for working on this from a different angle.

I contacted Humble again today and they were finally able to sort it out, so everything shows up properly in my Humble Library and I grabbed the DRM-free version.

The delay is certainly no reflection on the game. I really enjoyed it.

Rogue-lite metroidvania action-platformer 'Dead Cells' to come to Linux in May or June
5 Feb 2018 at 8:45 am UTC

Perhaps I am old-fashioned, but "rogue" and "metroidvania" seem to be the complete opposite to each other. Does this mash-up actually work in some unique way, or is it just cashing in on two popular catch-phrases?

I have been left disappointed by every game labelled "rogue"-something that I have tried.

Quoting: ShmerlHB are falsely advertising their release as DRM free. That's already wrong.
Well, here is an update. My support ticket is still being worked on, over 2 weeks later.

I was prepared to give Humble the benefit of the doubt, with a new release and people missing things. However, this is really just unacceptable. I don't know if it is linked to their buyout by IGN, but my experience with their support in the past was much better.

If it is just to get the DRM-free version of something, I don't think I will be buying it from Humble.

Hollow Knight: Gods & Glory, a third free content update has been announced
31 Jan 2018 at 6:48 pm UTC

Wow. I didn't expect another one! Very cool. I will sit down and replay the whole thing when the last DLC is released.

Quoting: ExidanDid anyone ever completed the White castle? I didn't had energy to play the DLC after that...
Yes, it is tricky but if you have any experience with other platformers, it turns out not too crazy if you are patient. Some of the hidden sections of Guacamelee were harder for me. I never quite got the final stage of the Arena in Hollow Knight, though. Many optional parts are challenging but the game does reward practice and skill.

In 'Overloop' you will be cloning yourself and sacrificing them to overcome traps

Sounds a bit like the puzzles in the Swapper? Hopefully it is as well-written and well-designed.
