The Talos Principle 2 has been announced

Quoting: MblackwellThe Talos Principle in the end isn't really like Portal at all, even if it seems that way at first.
This is right. I was a bit sceptical at first as I was over-saturated with first-person puzzle games. However, Talos got very good after a short time. The puzzles and locations were superb.

The story and dialogue could be polarizing, but I found it interesting enough. Some of the conversation choices seemed a bit forced, but it didn't really bother me much.

The puzzles, though, stand proudly as some of the best...

I finally played the Talos Principle. It started slowly and I was a bit sceptical at first, but it eventually showed why it got so many rave reviews. Very very clever. It has been compared to Portal, but it has a unique way of looking at things. Puzzles can be challenging but always fair.

I think the guy who made the Swapper had a hand in the dialogue, which shows in the mind-bending storyline. It is on sale... anyone who likes puzzle games should own it.

Runs flawlessly on linux.

Human Resource Machine from World of Goo creators now on Linux & SteamOS

This is great. I bought it instantly when I saw their announcement. Little Inferno was such a strange and wonderful game.

Thoughts: This is much more challenging than any of their other games. If you don't have any programming experience, it could be frustrating. I saw it compared to programming in assembly language, where you have a limited number of commands available.

Pros:
+ Great aesthetic, I love the quirky dark humour.
+ Good puzzles. They feel very satisfying when you complete them.
+ Ran 100% perfectly on Kubuntu 14.04. Great port!

Cons (minor):
- May be difficult for many to finish. I am still struggling to complete some optional "optimization" challenges.
- Other than difficult, a few optional challenges feel a bit like a chore (loop unrolling).
- There is a bulk copy-paste of a whole solution, but you can't copy part of a program back to itself. In longer puzzles, this can be annoying (but not game-breaking).

Verdict:
I am biased, so I personally will buy anything made by Tomorrow Corp. For everyone else, it depends on your interest in programming-type puzzles...

Little Inferno is a strangely compelling little game. I just recently re-played it and it is brutally ironic while being fun to play. There is really nothing else quite like it.

I look forward to this one!

Linux porter Ethan Lee did a SteamOS & Linux talk at MAGFest, slides now downloadable

Thanks, that was very interesting. I am a huge Ethan Lee fan - he has ported some amazing games. I make a point of picking up the games he has done since, even if it isn't something I am that interested in, I know the port is going to be bulletproof.

I cannot really offer any help (except maybe playtesting sometime in the future), but I wanted to say how much I admire your effort! Amazing undertaking and a worthy project... the golden age of Bioware games.

Open Game Benchmarks, a brand new benchmarking website for Linux games
31 Jan 2016 at 2:24 am UTC

I like the idea. Perhaps you could make more use of the "notes" so that people would describe in more detail the part of the game that was benchmarked. Making things consistent will be hard and it will rely somewhat on the "truthfulness" of the people submitting info. However, wikipedia works this way, so it is not impossible.

I agree that it will need more detail on distro version and driver version, if the site is to be useful at all. Although it is somewhat dated, I think WineHQ could give an idea for how to handle this.

Quoting: dubigrasuSo why not using Phoronix test suite for this?
Is Linux/Windows, easy to install and can run tests in controlled conditions easy to reproduce.
I am no expert, but I believe the Phoronix tests are designed to benchmark hardware by having a consistent batch of games to test against. Does it have the ability to plug in different games?

Papo & Yo finally has a Linux version on Steam, two years later

Great news. I played the Humble version and thought it was superb. Nice that they finally got around to setting up the Steam port. I hope their sales help them see it was worth it! I might gift it to a few people who find Steam easier than the Humble store,,,

The 2015 GamingOnLinux GOTY award is now over, here's the results!

As others have said, I had a hard time voting because I have not played all the games that got nominated. I don't think there is any easy way to avoid that kind of bias. We buy the games that appeal to us and can only compare them as we have experienced them.

Quoting: adolsonInitial takeaway: Axiom Verge got robbed, and too many people use Wine.
While Axiom Verge is one of my favourite games of 2015, I recognize that Metroidvania games only appeal to a subset of gamers. I can't fault people for liking other games more! But, damn, Axiom Verge was really good...

Ethan Lee is a force of nature. What he accomplishes is nothing short of amazing!

I always know that the games he personally ports are going to be completely solid. So many classics in this list:
