DXVK, the Vulkan compatibility layer for Direct3D 11 and Wine has a fresh release reducing CPU overhead
13 Apr 2018 at 11:12 am UTC

Quoting: YoRHa-2B@cRaZy-bisCuiT Since DXVK doesn't hot-patch or otherwise inject code into the process after the DLLs have been loaded (unlike tools like Reshade etc.), that shouldn't be too much of an issue with most anti-cheat solutions.

If something works with wined3d, it should be working with dxvk as well at least in that regard.
Oh well, sorry, this was not DXVK related: In general running games in wine with PunkBuster will cause issues. I'm note sure which files are checked by it but it could be a trial to set them to "native" in wine if only I'd know for sure what they check for. Maybe all DLLs in the game directory? Maybe all the DLLs related to Origin? Mhh...

EDIT:

1. The game runs! Unfortunately I have some weird shader bugs going on there. [0] Do you guys have these glitches as well?
2. As mentioned already, Punkbuster kicks me out of games where it's active. I don't know if there's a workaround to this.

Thanks for the Infos! Since BF4 is a Multiplayer game it would be nice to find out which DLLs Punkbuster checks for modification. Maybe it's possible to set them to "native" and pass Punkbuster.

It's almost impossible to play unranked games only since the game is dying anyway and you need all servers to find a game going on. (:

NVIDIA dropping support for 32bit Linux this month, also dropping Fermi series support

What the heck, guys? Of course you can still run x86 applications, including Steam, games and emulators.

The only thing you can't do is installing the driver on a x86 distribution. They get abandoned anyway, no one needs them anymore so there's no reason to over react here.

BF3 I don't think will work because of Battlelog.

Do you happen to have a link to something explaining how to make BF4 work ? All I can see is a Garbage status for the game on WineHQ and can't find any relevant info on making it actually work :(
This!

Maybe you could set up instructions on WineHQ if you get it working. I will try and do the same. You should state in that case it's been achieved by DXVK - hopefully they will accept that.

Fermi should still be supported in the legacy branch which should be fine. Like this it's still possible to use it on modern kernels. Or are they going to totally drop it? In that case I might stay with the latest working OS on my "lan PC".

It's about time they kick x86 - from a Software developers perspective it's a burden to be backwards compatible for ages and carrying along too much overhead. Almost every computer since 2004 or even before that can handle x64. So what's the deal? Steam even started to be well-known when x64 was a thing anyway.

Whatsoever, someone who doesn't have appropriate hardware but can't afford it should let himself gift something.

I gave a lot of Core i3 1st generation Hardware to people including 8 GB RAM etc. - if you add a cheap graphics card it can handle modern OSes and decent games.

Something for the weekend - Spec Ops: The Line is free on Humble Store

Quoting: GuestI grabbed a copy. Gonna try to download it next month depending on how much of my data cap I have to use up with GoW (hopefully none). I only have a 8gb hotspot on my phone that I'm using. :(
Just do it like I did in the past: Take your notebook to some (free) hot spot, download the game and copy it over to your desktop.

Even with 100 GB data plan it's impossible to maintain a large Steam library before eating up your monthly data quota.

Mesa 18.0 released, further advancing Linux graphics drivers

Actually I used to have a few games that didn't run on my system. But right now all of my ~ 200 Linux games work pretty flawlessly now. The only game I remember that doesn't run is Cossacks 3. I guess it's the fault of the devs of the game but I can't say for sure.

Apart from that my 3570k + 16 GB RAM + RX 480 runs everything fast enough in combination with my 1080p setup, nothing to complain. Old legacy Windows games may run even better with wine nowadays then on Windows 10.

Actually it's pretty nice of you guys that you want to give everything to Liam. Please don't forget that if devs don't receive any share, there will be no games anymore, especially not on Linux. Also, if Humble don't receive money they might drop their "decide whom you give money" shared system.

So I'd definitely give Liam 50 % and share the rest between devs and Humble, maybe also 10 % to charity.
