System76 patches APT for Pop!_OS to prevent users breaking their systems

Quoting: x_wingBTW, is certainly very important to also notice the issues that they other guy from LTT had with mint. The shit show that was his UI due to Nvidia open source drivers is also a big heads up (yet another fuck you to Nvidia I guess).
If is about the multimonitors issues that he had, that's a common Linux problem, Nvidia or not, with the exact same type of fuckups that Luke had, wrong monitor order, weird mouse problems, plus games starting wherever the hell they want.
Being AMD user myself I gave up on using two monitors, because is yes, a shit show. They work most of the time (sort of) except when you need them the most. I just went through a good part of the day cursing at my two screens while trying to make them do what I want (basically having OBS running on the second monitor):

Can I please start the game on the big monitor? No.
Then at least can I move it after? No, I don't want that.
How about you let me to... No, I don't feel like.
Not even?...No.
What if?...No.
But?...No.

So is fuck you AMD or Linux I guess, just to be fair?
On Windows I can connect two monitors or more, and use them as you see fit, they simply obey you. On Linux is a fight between you and them. Of course, is Linux, and you have ways to beat them into submission, but that's beside the point.

(I guess it shows that I had a bad day)

Quoting: MohandevirIt's just sad... Bad timing.
Bad timing indeed, sadly what a missed opportunity for Pop!_OS (God!...this name!) to show its value. (as a side note, I felt so vindicated when Linus agreed that it has a "spectacularly stupid name").
Nevertheless, I hope is gonna try it again, from the looks of it (from what I gather watching their WAN's) Linus already probably butchered his Manjaro install because he didn't liked Dolphin or something.
I think it deserves a second chance.

ChimeraOS 27 is out with touch-screen improvements for the AYA NEO

Is interesting that the support for Aya Neo happened because the ChimeraOS dev received the device from the Aya Neo themselves.
Valve on the other hand, while they also promised one, they haven't done so yet.

Quoting: zen_xenoLOL seriously, I love that Valve used AA batteries in the Steam controller
Hear hear!
I hate those integrated batteries, they go bad and have no easy access to them. I have at least one controller unusable wirelessy because of that.
Which controller? I'm sure you can buy a replacement if you're willing to attack the casing a little bit.
Is one or two PS3 controllers. I opened them before to clean the stuff inside, but didn't went too far with the battery since I still have one still working.
I may resort to that eventually.

Quoting: Mohandevir...being forced to change the batteries, in my SC is the part I hate the most. I broke one of the "ejector sticks" in one of them... I can still change the batteries, but I'm in for a hell of a fight.
That is true, some batteries are slightly larger and hard to take out.
I do this to avoid fighting with them:

You just pull them out with the ribbon.

Linux has now seen 4 months of being above 1% on the Steam Hardware Survey

Quoting: slaapliedjeAlso wondering if Debian is just classified as Ubuntu, as I don't see it on this list at all.
I suppose you can check your Steam's system information, see what's listed there.

Recently I had it (the survey) three times in a single day.
I didn't had any hardware changes (which is also likely to trigger it), just some various distros testing.

Quoting: tuubiWrapped ports can make Linux look bad in comparison, but they're better than nothing as long as they're properly supported on Linux.
Better than NOTHING, true. But they most definitely made Linux look real bad.

I even think it was misleading back then to call such releases "ports" at all. But no point in beating a dead horse further. 😊👍
They were not without issues, but overall they worked very well. At times issues reported for those ports were in fact the original game issues, (like the stutter in BI when loading new areas).
But most importantly, those ports came when we badly needed them. We are spoiled today with everything running with Vulkan/DXVK/Proton etc, but back then we only had a handful of porters that did what they could with the tools of the time and OpenGL.
Whatever the today status, those porters, VP/Aspyr/Feral/etc deserve our (at least mine) gratitude, they kept the Linux gaming going as best as they could.
