I totally like this idea. Good starting point for some low spec DIY console, a project that keeps haunting me. Maybe someday.

I remember thinking that this will never work, as someone using wine for gaming I was too much aware of the multitude of aspects you have to juggle with.
Do it yourself manually? Sure, but to automate it and have the game install and start seamlessly felt like an impossible task, in the "not gonna happen" territory.
It was an idea frequently thrown around, "what if Valve could use Wine to do this and that" but always dismissed as too hard to pull off.
And even Linux/Wine enthusiasts agreed on this, see below one of those discussions, is quite funny now in hindsight: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse/discussions/1/523897653314331401/ [External Link]
We did wanted to see something like that to happen (the embedded video is mine [airspeedmph] BTW) but never believed that Valve is "insane" enough to try it.
And what do you know... they actually did it and now is powering the successful Steam Deck, mind blown!

GeForce NOW on Steam Deck really can be a game-changer

It really is impressive. For me, less impressive than Stadia, which felt like a more streamlined experience, but nevertheless, still mind blowing if you think about it.
You lay on your couch or bed playing Destiny 2 on your Steam Deck, no wires no nothing, and you don't feel like your game is actually running on a system (in my case) hundreds of km away. You know it, but it doesn't feel that way. Yes, there is an amount of lag that prohibits competitive type of games, but for casuals like me is like magic. Whatever technical trickery they're employing, it feels like is running on your device.
I mean, there is less lag that on PS3 for example (where I got hooked on Destiny 1, go figure).

After many hours of playing I realize I've spent most of the time micromanaging the inventory, rather than doing something actually interesting. Maybe it gets better, but after around 20 Hrs of staring at freakishly small boxes (and text) with myriads of crap to move around, well, I gave up.
Likely I approached the game wrong or whatever, but yeah it does feel too "super complicated" for my taste.

How do you all rate this game?It has its number of fans, for sure. I'm not one of them though. I would call it "The Extensively Boring And Tedious inventory Management Simulator". I'm no stranger to survival games where you have these inventories to deal with a lot (like maybe Rust or The Long Dark/etc), but this one takes the cake, at least that's what I felt.

They're taking their sweet time for the full release. A native 3DMark Wild Life Extreme benchmark exists since about two years ago, but only Michael from Phoronix seems to have access to it.

Using both, alternatively for the moment. X because that's where everything (still) works and Wayland because eventually I have to get used with it and its quirks.
I think Wayland is in pretty good shape now, the one thing that still doesn't work (and probably will not work for a long while) is mouse cursor shown when using the Steam Controller. Which is practically a game breaker, since I use SC for everything (game related). There are several workarounds but none satisfactory, so at the moment I mostly use Wayland, but when I'm gaming I'm back on X.

Anyone able to use it on regular desktop? Installs fine on SteamDeck and runs excellent, on desktop though I'm able to install it but hangs at the point where is supposed to show you the pin.
Edit:
I saw the installer checking for the OS used, so I spoofed it with Steamos, reinstall etc, but the login issues remained. Turns out though, you can check the logs and manually opening the auth link is supposed to be given and finally log in. At this point the app seems to be working just fine, until you try to launch a game :) ...when it fails again when checking the connection with the cloud servers.
Edit#2: Sigh...I wish I'd seen this sooner:

Works just fine.
