Dying Light hotfix released, should fix major texture issue on Linux, no co-op fixes yet
13 Feb 2016 at 7:59 am UTC

Well, not sure what was fixed about the low textures "bug".
Before this new patch I had no low textures whatsoever, not one.
Is only now that I'm starting to see them, and a lot of them.

Quoting: Xpandermissing true sky, tesselation and ground clutter - those features are missing from linux version

and yeah its the reason it runs better, you can achieve same graphical detail on windows when you add
-sm4 to the launch options
Gotcha Xpander, good info.
I guess is a good test case for a benchmark. Not sure if ARK has a running demorec feature.

Well, (I haven't played the game on Windows) but the guy was pretty bent on showing every missing SteamOS features and he failed to notice any difference at the same settings, even at a side by side comparison.
So I guess is pretty safe to say that as a general experience the Linux version of ARK is not that bad.

ARK has less graphical features on Linux, it's not rocket science ;)
You mean features absent from the settings menu?

Tweaking Performance in XCOM 2

Quoting: dubigrasuThe PoolSize is a proven tweak for UE3 titles, but why would I set
MaxSmoothedFrameRate to 400?
Good question! The original source suggests "leaving" this at 400, but I found my setting was actually 62. I bumped it up to 400 because I have no experience to argue against an obviously knowledgeable UE3 tester, but since that advice came from 2013, it may well be flawed. 400 does seem a bit on the high side and potentially risks running your card hot generating frames that your screen can't draw and your eyes are incapable of discerning.

Of course, if this was CS:GO, you'd have some folk argue that 400 isn't really high enough... :)
Yes, I could see the reason for a higher value than the default 62 in case of a higher refresh monitor, but for the usual 60 Hz ones I would leave it as it is.
I was curious to see if there is a special argument for the 400 value.

Firewatch, a first person mystery adventure game released for Linux & SteamOS

Anyone here played it with a Xbox 360 gamepad?
I have a very slow rotating speed with the camera (although double to the right) and reversed dpad inputs (OK, I can live with that).

Dying Light: The Following - Enhanced Edition now available for Linux, texture issues

Quoting: dubigrasuI had the lower textures issue after update but it goes away if you delete both shader caches (game's and Nvidia's).
Where is the NVIDIA cache? You mean ~/.nv? Or somewhere in /tmp ?

Not finding the game's cache... :P
Game's cache is in "Dying Light/DW/out/opengl_shader_binaries" with shaders for each driver, and yes the .nv folder for the Nvidia's driver.

Quoting: dubigrasuYou know, I'm pretty pleased with this update because at least three issues that bugged me before are now solved.
I had an annoying stutter that is gone now while performance is a also great.
A subtle flickering on vegetation when using SSAO is also now gone.
And finally I can see the Survivor Sense in action. Previously I could hear only the sound and its result on the radar thingy, but now I can see also the pulse itself:
Yeah, it's great to see those bugs fixed. Just the low texture issue which is especially bad on "high" settings. I only found one instance of it on "medium" settings, and the green screen flicker issue when clicking through the intro screens when starting the game.
Hm, I don't see these low textures regardless of settings used.
There were plenty of them indeed immediately after update, but not after clearing both shader caches.
OTOH I haven't played that much so I might bump into them eventually.
