Quoting: LinasEvolution might not be a thing of beauty, but it gives me access to all my mails, calendars, contacts, etc. via Exchange Web Services, Gmail, etc. and it just works most of the time, even with 2-factor authentication. It can also open IMAP mailboxes with gigabytes of messages that make Thunderbird choke.Does it use maildir or mbox for the local folders?
I have not yet seen anything remotely as feature-complete as Evolution in the area, and consider it an essential tool in my office-survival kit. I sure wish it received more love, because it surely deserves it. <3
The GOG Spring Sale is on - giving away the 'Witcher Goodies Collection' for 48 hours

What exactly is there inside the 'goodie packs', esp. that of TW3? Anything interesting beyond (presumably) the soundtrack? TW2's 'extras' pack on GOG had the absolutely face-palm-tastic 'goodie' that was the topless playboy photoshoot of Triss; so I'm approaching it from a cringed angle already.

The word 'defenestrate' probably endures as a tongue in cheek reference to a 'Bohemian' style of starting a war/revolt: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defenestrations_of_Prague [External Link]

Quoting: Purple Library GuyThe French 'fenêtre' and the German 'Fenster' both have the Latin 'fenestra' as their source.Quoting: slaapliedjeDefenestrate probably comes from French in some way, originally, since the French for window is "fenetre", but it's certainly a word in English. I agree that it's a fun word. I defenestrated my computer ages ago . . .Quoting: EikeMy favorite German word is defenstrate, though after making sure I was spelling it right, Wikipedia informs me it is a French word?Quoting: wvstolzingFunnily enough, it's one of those English words that have two *related*, but almost opposite meanings. See: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/moot [External Link]The German word "umfahren" means driving around somebody/something or driving over (run over) somebody/something, just depending on the pronunciation. :D
Another such example is 'sanction'.

How does the 'do not disturb' mode work though? I presume it uninstalls GNOME altogether?

Quoting: commodore256Taxation is theft, it's being taken under threat of kidnapping and if you resist kidnapping via defending yourself instead of running away, they kill you. I don't care who you're stealing from, it's still theft. I think trusting central planners and a monopoly on arbitration not to be corrupt is utopian.Awesome, this clarifies everything. Best wishes going forward.

Another relevant example is 'versprechen' with the reflexive; w/o the reflexive, it means 'to promise'; with the reflexive, 'to misspeak'. Can be confusing if it's not one's first language.
Actually a pretty annoying difficulty that I still have with German is with words that start with 'ver-'. Where these make verbs out of adjectives, there's no problem; but otherwise, out of habit I associate the words with negative connotations, which is of course often wrong.

Quoting: EikeYeah, and Hegel famously got a lot of 'mileage' out of the related-but-opposite meanings of 'Aufhebung' -- 'raising up' & 'cancelling'.Quoting: wvstolzingFunnily enough, it's one of those English words that have two *related*, but almost opposite meanings. See: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/moot [External Link]Quoting: EikeMore people should use the word moot. Also some should remain mute. And I still want a castle with a moat.Quoting: Purple Library GuySo close and yet so far... :DQuoting: EikeI'm not sure people will get rid of a hungry main process. But fortunately, with Ryzen 3000, the question should be mood. (Is that correct? The question is not important anymore.)You're very close. "moot"
Thanks!

Where I live, under a religious conservative and VERY 'business friendly' administration, taxation on consumer goods is off the roof. Imported electronics, for example, get an approx. 80% markup -- just because. You wouldn't believe the amount they extort over alcoholic beverages. And this is the antithesis of 'democratic socialist' country.
The anti-taxation 'faith' in the US is not *that* deeply rooted; the American Revolution was ignited by resentment against taxation by a colonial MONARCH, not against a democratically controlled taxation regime. At the *very least*, Bernie's movement gives some hope as to the weakening of that faith. That's quite something, after decades of brainwashing.

Quoting: commodore256Car Registration fees are $200 and if you're poor and your car is worth $1,000, that's 20% of your car's value in registration. If you're poor and addicted to cigarettes have fun trying to get ahead in life when Cigarettes are $11 per pack.Taxation on consumer goods & wages reach absurd levels not because taxation AS SUCH is a bad idea; it's because so called 'wealth creators' get away with contributing *nothing*, under the most fantastical and 'utopian' excuses. (We're supposed to believe that tax cuts contribute to the flourishing of society in general -- yeah, right...)

This looks great; the premise appears to be similar to the one in 'Nimble Quest' (https://store.steampowered.com/app/259780/Nimble_Quest/), which was a really fun* game -- though 'Snake Core' looks to be more interesting.

Quoting: ageres* The final boss is being auto-defeated in a cutscene, not by a player. Disappointing. The folks who made this probably didn't want to cause animated gifs of Bowser McCheetof*ckwit owning 'the player' circulating around the internet.
