Quoting: Destroyer28.8k or 33.6k modem more likely, 56k wasn't released until 1998. Even then I didn't have one until after 2000.I thought 56k came earlier; but the dates are all jumbled up in my mind. I know I went from 14.4k, to 33.6, to 56; though I can't remember at which point we got dial-up internet; before that it was mostly for BBSs, and faxing.
I'm getting this game even though it looks more modern than what we actually had.

Quoting: tuubiNo. Make it stop. Please?What's not to love about 56K dial-up, blinking text, and "Best Viewed with Internet Explorer"?
I don't see how anyone who experienced '90s Internet would want to remember it, let alone relive it. Dropsy was great, but I don't think my psyche could handle this one.

Quoting: KetilYou can setup sudo to work without password for certain commands even if they are written in bash. I prefer that over setuid.Yeah I was about to ask whether you could define a Cmnd_Alias for a shell script in sudoers to then add a NOPASSWD exception; but this approach seems to be even simpler. Does it have to come at the end of the sudoers file though?
## In sudoers, edited with visudo
myuser ALL = (ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/local/bin/mysudocommand

Quoting: NeverthelessYou can't setuid a bash script, so a binary helps there.I wasn't aware of that; that's good to know, thanks.

Does it have to be compiled C code?

Quoting: Nevertheless...Couldn't you do the same with something like
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <sys/types.h>
#include <unistd.h>
int main()
{
setuid( 0 );
system( "echo performance | sudo tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor" );
return 0;
}
...
sudo sh -c 'echo powersave | tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor'Does it have to be compiled C code?

Speaking of source ports, I'd really like this one to get some support on Linux: https://www.doomretro.com/ [External Link]
Although it's presented as a windows-only source port, it used to build & run very well on Linux, but since about a year ago I started getting all sorts of problems with sound; so I gave up, and went back to chocolate-doom.
