I still have an old SPARC desktop with OpenSolaris. Looks like Oracle is going to kill Solaris off anyway, so it's good that illumos is still alive.
It's also good to see that there seems to be an increase of activity lately; last time I downloaded an iso to play around with*, the project seemed moribund.

(* It's pretty fun & informative to set up a bunch of different *nix VMs, and compare the various tools and documentation on each. Or at least that's what I tell myself while I'm procrastinating my real work.)

(** slightly more on topic -- I think it's pretty amusing that just as there are people who'd like to leave windows, but cannot because of games, there are people who'd be happy to switch from Linux to a BSD, but they cannot, because of, well, games.)

The Witcher 3 didn't come to Linux likely as a result of the user-backlash from The Witcher 2

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Well witcher 3 was never officially cancelled CD and Valve just stopped talking about it
Valve never talked about it. They just posted two ads, clearly sanctioned by CDPR. And while it was never officially cancelled, it was de-facto cancelled.
You never know... they may release it in 2077 when Cyberpunk is real and it's a Golden Oldie Retro. Might even release on a Micro-Mini-SSD card? :P
By 2077 the game will run inside a browser on a low end smartphone.

Quoting: KimyrielleHe can be a totally rude jerk, and the fact that he invented the OS of our choice doesn't change that he needs a crash course in basic manners.
Sorry to go off-topic, but what he did was not to invent an OS -- rather, he reverse engineered the kernel of an OS that was ~20 years old at that point. This is not to detract from his achievement, of course; but I suspect part of the reason why he's such an insufferable **** is that we casually tend to give him credit for developments in computing that he had nothing to do with.

People laugh at Stallman and the FSF for what sounds like an inane obsession with the 'GNU/' nomenclature, but they do have a point. Besides, a few things could have happened at slightly different times around 1991-1993, and we'd all be hailing UC Berkeley Department of CS & McKusick et al. as the inventors of our free OS. Also, Ritchie & Thompson probably deserve to be have 'household name' status as well, just as much as Linus.

If CD Projekt thought there was a viable (given what THEY think of as viable) market for their product on Linux, they would have initiated the project, regardless whether the Linux community is made up of saints or demons sworn to eat the developers' babies.

Where there's money to be made, civilized behavior becomes a trivial side issue. Also, the stock exchange speculation looks a bit fanciful.

If user impoliteness were an issue for ANY software company, we would have none left.

Playstation 3 emulator 'RPCS3' has improved Linux support recently

He probably had firmware in mind, when he said 'rom'. These emulators require system software ripped from the actual ROM chips of a console.

Quoting: hardpenguinBut yes, it's not much different from, let's say, an information that Steam got packaged for yet another distro ;)
It's very different, though, since this is relevant to users of all distros.

GOG Connect adds more games, plus a huge summer sale now on

Quoting: SalvatosAs it is I'm just likely to forget I own a given game on GOG.
I think GOG implemented the 'Connect' program precisely to counteract this. They're trying to help people consolidate more of their libraries on their service, so as to put a dent in Steam's enormous advantage in offering the convenience of a single launcher / single library / single account / single store.
