The first Steam Play update for this year is out with Proton 3.16-7 beta
17 Feb 2019 at 9:41 pm UTC

I have been using the 3.16.6 version with Banished. I always had to kill it manually after exit, because it wouldn't stop and slowed down the system significantly. Now with the 3.16.7 version it exits without problems and slowdowns, but the gameplay itself became sluggish. They don't want me to get bored. :dizzy:

Steam Play versus Linux Version, a little performance comparison and more thoughts

without the developer of these games even have to support or cooperate with us
That's quite risky. You pay for a game, but the devs basically give you no guarantee it will work. On the other hand, people who work on Wine and components (or simply Proton) will never see that money while doing the work itself.
Remember, a simple update can change many things in a game. And Proton needs to deal with it somehow. It would be more than necessary to have the developers in the back giving a helping hand.

Just to clarify. The original problem was a bug in Mesa 18, that was later found and fixed.
In the meantime, the developers choose another route, by going fully 64 bit. This way they by-passed the original bug. They also updated their former titles to 64 bit. For me, this was quite a surprise. Wouldn't mind other devs doing the same thing when they encounter a problem. :)

Quoting: NezchanCome to think of it, I wonder if this means Banished is playable now. I gather sound is the real sticking point, but I'm not sure about the details.
Banished worked great even before this. You only need the xaudio workaround mentioned on protondb.

Although the Linux version of Botanicula is not on Steam, but it still exists. I would have preferred something that is not available in any way natively.

Quoting: GuestSo maybe i'm Blind. But when i look at the Steam Page. There is no Linux Support Listed. Or is it like some sort of Beta how it was for Turok and such?
The usual SteamOS icon is there. You probably missed it.

I have a Haswell laptop and been playing this game for months without serious problems. Though haven't installed the update yet.
One thing is that I play it in windowed mode and sometimes the main menu doesn't appear, but it is enough to resize (and back) the window a bit for it to appear. The game itself is running good and with decent frame rates.

I really liked the first and second one, even re-played them a few times already. I hope this will bring the same quality.
