CAYNE, the free point & click horror game set in the STASIS universe is now out and it's damn good

GOG seems unlikely, but they'll release a DRM free version.
GOG has told me that they are not fans of free games on their platform and as such are not interested in Cayne. We may at some point convince them or possibly bundle it with STASIS.
Even though STASIS is a massive seller on their platform I think it is an internal policy.
Let's see!
There will however be a direct DRM free download with no Steam tie in available for folks that don't like Steam.

And I'd say the "overall product" in GOG and Humble Bundle do have DRM too since the games are bound to an account or at least a specific key to manage if I have the right to download the digital game. Just the games itself are free from any additional checks.

Quoting: torhamI don't think we ought to consider this DRM-free, it is just really easy to rip it yourself. While the game does not have its own DRM, the overall product still does. Why? Assuming the games are exactly the same (bit for bit) - how can Steam add DRM to it?

You don't get an installer. If it's DRM free you can just copy or archive the game data from your steamapps folder. A DRM free game will run without Steam running (or installed).

I was a little bit disappointed to find out, that GOG does not have the latest version (1.1.1 vs 1.1.2). I hope there's not a huge delay in the future!

Quoting: PublicNuisanceIt's weird but having the full game DRM free is more important than the demo if I have to choose. The demo is DRM free on Steam and works completely without it. It's possible that the game is DRM free on Steam, too.

The performance is not good, but acceptable. With Mesa 13 and mesa_glthread I get between 25-55 fps on a Radeon HD 7870. When zoomed out it's usually about 30 fps. The impact of mesa_glthread is not as great as in Borderlands but it helps a lot to achieve a playable framerate.
But the game is heavily CPU bound on Mesa: One core is constantly at 100% and with 3,4 GHz instead of 4 GHz the framerate drops noticeably (I guess about 25%).

Life is Strange released for Linux & SteamOS, some thoughts and a port report included

The port is good. I wouldn't say great, but when I'm comparing my framerate with the Gallium nine|CSMT|Win 10 video, I cannot complain. With a Radeon HD 7870 & Mesa 12 at 1920x1200 MAX I get about 80 fps in the opening scene and in the school around 50-70 fps. On Windows the framerate seems to be quiet low, too (the game does not look that great).
But the load on the system is pretty high (CPU [Core i5 @4 GHz]: 100%|100%|~90%|50%, GPU:often 100%, at least according Gallium HUD).

Quoting: cxphergmailcomIt's actually much easier: Just ALT-TAB once to a different Window (on GNOME Shell Steam will be open) & the game will start fine. At least it works here (Arch Linux with GNOME Shell).Quoting: Vash63I'm unable to run the game in full screen mode, just get a full black screen.Found a workaround for this. Go to either advanced options in the Feral launcher or right click on the game and go to properties and under advanced options..
Nvidia 367.35 on Arch w/ Gnome.

Don't think this issue exists on SteamOS. Just if you're using another disto/DE, then maybe. I'm running Arch with Gnome 3.20.x.
For those of you seeing a blackscreen on launch in fullscreen mode, this will also workaround that.

Quoting: TheBossSkins, skins people. It doesn't affect gameplay in ANY way. How can people even remotely get annoyed by that? It's not just skins. Hunters and monsters are available as DLC, too and they definitely impact the gameplay.
