Quoting: 0aTTThe biggest mistake of Microsoft, Sony and others it has always been that they strive for world domination rather than simply making money. Valve instead will never give up a functioning business....
Interesting thought, I do wonder if these businesses could have survived had they done it differently. I guess you could look at apple as a great example of a computer manufacture thats happy to make profit rather then dominate market share, but its a really different approach to business, I wonder if MS would have survived going that route.

Vulkan support for Dota 2 to come next week

I think Kristian hits the nail on the head, Metal existing on the mac is not an issue, its the lack of Vulcan that hurts.

Although I'm not sure where all the concern in the thread about lack of OS X support is coming from? Are we assuming it would make linux development more attractive if the OSX market share was compatible? As someone who is heavily invested in the Apple eco system I'd love for gaming to come to Mac but I also am not under any illusion its a big untapped market. The API is not the limiting factor, OSX needs a big improvement in hardware to become a serious gaming platform. I love my macbook and am typically on it 8+ hours a day, but its used for presentations, spreadsheets, web browsing, music and videos etc. This is what apple has focused on and the product reflects that.

The Zotac Steam Machine ZBOX NEN SN970 impressed OC3D in their review

A few people discussed netflix support. I really hope this shows up in steamos, I'd love to see a steam machine that could completely remove the need for an appletv or console. As it stands it just plays games, which I'm happy they focused on, but isn't enough to justify a purchase just yet imo. Personally I think I will buy either a steam machine when it gets netflix, or an appletv if it gets a steam streaming client :D

Don't Count On Any EA Frostbite Powered Games On Linux

A lot of negative comments here. First, I've used steam for many years and the frequency I've seen the HW survey on linux is similar to windows.

Secondly, this is pretty simple, at this point in time they don't see the ROI for developing for linux. This does not mean they can't turn a profit by developing for the platform, it simply means they could see a greater return by using funds elsewhere. I make very similar decisions every day in my line of work, there's only so much cash, equipment and manpower, it has to be used in a way that drives maximum shareholder value. The bottom line is EA doesn't care about you, innovation, being first etc. They have a dollars and cents mentality and as a gamer I really dislike them for it, but from a business perspective I understand it.

Third point, the minute the ROI starts to improve (as it most certainly will as steambox's launch) I fully expect penny pinching companies like EA to rapidly change their tune.
