CrossOver 16 is out, built using Wine 2.0

Linux office suites are very capable and well polished these days. Our company uses some excel macro's that people rely on but nothing that couldn't be scripted on linux with a little effort.

However, the one thing linux does not have is a decent email client, I think this is the biggest thing crossover/office can solve. MS Exchange is part of life in a lot of organizations, I rely heavily on it. While MacOS has alternative clients that play nice, linux is pretty limited. Linux based clients range from terrible to "ok, but not feature complete". I see something around 15000+ work emails a year, a solid client thats not web based is a must, and nothing I've used on linux comes close to matching the productivity of Outlook, or my personal favourite Airmail. Every year or so I give it another go and there are improvements, Davmail works really well, and there are some nice looking projects like Geary. But so far linux based email clients have always lacked functionality, are clunky, sometimes unreliable, and simply not up to par with whats offered on other platforms. I contemplated going linux for my work laptop but ended up landing on a MacBook, email was a major part of the choice.

AMD 'Ryzen' is the official name of the Zen processors, more details released today

Competition is always good, I'm really excited to see how this performs. I remember the good old days being a hardcore AMD fanboy. Although for spreadsheets and gaming I'm not sure new faster cpu's are really going to be a worthwhile upgrade.

Aspyr Media are reminding Linux gamers not to give up hope on Civilization VI
24 Oct 2016 at 7:47 pm UTC

I hope so....the game is looking really good from what I've seen so far. Although "possible" doesn't inspire a ton of confidence, I'm happy to know they are doing there best. I'd be a lot happier if the dev's would have built from the ground up with linux in mind.

Feral have released the minimum and recommend system requirements for Mad Max on Linux

Specifying a clock speed is kinda confusing, will be a wait and see for people falling just below the spec. Will be interesting to see if this is actually CPU bound and how it scales with more cores. Also interesting that minimum spec for Mac is 200MHz lower than linux....

HTC Vive VR demo on Linux used Kubuntu at SteamDevDays

Waiting for Vulkan to become stable and widely available makes sense, and its encouraging to see the dev's playing the long game rather then rushing something out. Shows some long term commitment and planning.

Awesome, finally a game I can get as a day one linux release and place my first proper vote with my wallet :D It seems as I slowly transitions away from windows I had most big games I wanted to play before they were ported.

Witcher 3 confirmed!

But bad jokes aside, I'm placing my bet on Mad Max....it is massive. But deep down I want it to be something none of us saw coming, like a day one release of south park...or something completely optimized for vulkan :P

Valve turns 20 years old today, happy birthday! A brief look at their Linux history

Nice writeup! Happy birthday steam! :D

We still don't have all the AAA titles windows gets, but in the last year I think the tipping point was reached where there is enough entertaining linux titles out there that gamers no longer need dual booting, big thanks to steam and valve for this!

Turmoil, the simulation game about drilling for oil is now on Linux

Lol, read this article and decided to check it out as the price was right. Immediately hooked, gameplay is a little repetitive but oh so addicting. Definitely worth checking out.
