Really sad to see...
Out of curiosity, if now someone would write specifications based on that code, and another one would write another engine reimplementation based on that specifications, would be it legal ?

I kinda disagree with the mentality that epic games are the 'evil'. Sure you don't have to agree with their business practices, but the truth they are a profit based company like valve, cd project red(gog), etc. And while i hated the decision to remove linux support from rocket league, too. I am sure that the decision was not soley based upon epic games hating linux. Contrary they support many open source projects and give game developers a fair share. Sure thing that's not because they are so generous. And there are many companys (hello valve) i really like because their continuos investment in linux. Doesn't mean we have to start the hate train.

The performance is with the right abstraction on par with c/c++ and the abstractions are more readable and maintainable once you learn rust. But this is ofcourse a chicken egg problem. Someone has to start expanding the ecosystem, so yes if you want to say they "hell bent" but with the rising popularity, i think this are logical steps people make.

Quoting: M@GOidI wonder if Rust led to some performance advantages or disadvantages, in comparison to C. I saw some people hell bent in making everything in Rust, regardless if it is the best tool for the job or not.If the ecosystem is big enough rust is (nearly) always (in my opinion) the better choice over c if the programmers are fluent in rust.

Well i am kinda of a different opinion. Steam Play should be primarily for users who dont want to mess with wine to run a game. So if you need to apply workarounds to even play a Game that is clearly for me borked.
If the Game is playable but has Graphical Glitches or occasionally crashes that is silver.
If the Game runs good but minor Glitches can occur, or the game doesnt really perform as good as native its gold.
And Platinum is like Native.
What you are talking about is more like the Wine Rating on winehq, but Steam Play is also for linux/wine noobs.

Best Case Scenario:
Nearly no extra work required to port to Linux Desktop.
Worst Case Scenario:
Still not more native Games but more Vulkan Games
-> better performance in wine
And still they are contributing to mesa and the kernel etc.
I dont think that streaming games will takeover the "normal" gaming any time soon.
The input lag will be to bad in non urban areas.
So either way Linux Desktop will benefit from this.
