EVERSPACE, a fantastic looking 3D space shooter with roguelike elements coming to Linux

Quoting: MuffinmanIf this game brings the same fast-paced joy that Star Raiders on the 5200 Atari brought to me in the 80s, then it's a winner in my book. Far too many space game developers are pushing for realistic physics, complicated gameplay, and too much depth. Some of us just want to jump in, blow some stuff up, and leave in a 20 to 30 minute session. The Star Raiders of the 1980s gave you some depth, but not at the expense of fast paced action-packed gameplay.
LOL See, I'm one of those people who wants more depth. I'd like to be able to explore, mine, etc. in an open world rather than just dog-fighting, dying, rinse, repeat. I don't really need another Strike Suit Zero. But hey, I hope this game gives you what you want. It's always nice to have options.
I know what you mean: Star Citizen, Eve Online, Elite Dangerous. I'm happy that games are being developed for you guys (regardless of platform). I'm just begging for 1 comparable to Star Raiders gameplay. If anyone has a recommendation, please share with me!

Valve rep mentions they will eventually survey Big Picture & SteamOS

Quoting: STiATI bet there are not more than 100 machines out there actually running SteamOS in BPM. Ye, I'm pesimist :-).

I've been using SteamOS for about a month now. It could use some bug fixes with the interface, but so far, it's been a nice experience. All the games I've downloaded have worked. I know it's going to be a slow progression from here on out, but I'm excited about what Valve has in store for SteamOS. I plan on rolling down my old gaming PC to be used as a Debian Desktop. I will use my high end rig for SteamOS. Technically, they're both high end, but SteamOS will get the newer hardware.

New Linux & SteamOS gamer survey for February

Last month I switched from Debian Openbox to SteamOS on the desktop PC. SteamOS on a desktop PC is a little quirky, but overall it's been a positive experience. My current plan is to roll down my old gaming PC to Debian Openbox and having two PCs side-by-side: one for gaming and one for the desktop tasks.

Garry Newman of Rust and Garry's Mod regrets supporting Linux
28 Jan 2016 at 5:53 pm UTC

I've been playing Rust since October 2014, and I realize it's still under development, but it's been a real frustrating experience on many levels. Don't get me wrong, the game can be fun, but it's very flawed, and those flaws need to be addressed. Garry has published a developer map showing where the game should be going, but progress has been slow, and curve balls have been thrown. I don't feel that the developer map has been followed closely enough, and not all of the "surprises" have been welcome ones. When Garry has been confronted by the community, he's pushed back and chastised. It might be a defense mechanism where he might not necessarily have the resources to address a specific issue at a given time, and just does not admit any particular weaknesses in his team. We'll see how it all plays out. I have high hopes for Rust, but I think we're a few years away from seeing the game reach maturity.

Sunken, a hardcore action RPG with random monsters and loot now on Linux

Torchlight 2 is really well done, but there's something about it that I can't quite put my finger on. It needs something more. I really want to like it, but it doesn't hold my interest like Diablo 2 did. Any Diablo-like game will need to convince me that it's better than Torchlight 2 (overcome that missing element that would keep my attention).

Ori and the Blind Forest developer clarifies why a Linux port is up to Microsoft
4 Jan 2016 at 4:31 pm UTC

Companies have experimented with opening things up before. Between 1995 and 1997, Apple officially allowed manufacturers like Compaq to produce Mac clones. It can be argued that changes in management at Apple allowed that experimentation to take place. It's not out of the realm of possibility that management changes at Microsoft could change the way they operate at some point in the future. It's not out of the realm of possibility that they would consider a Linux port today.

Arma 3 Is Officially Being Worked On For Linux By An External Team, Won’t Be Native

As of 10/01/2015, Arma III worked via Steam on Debian Openbox with Nvidia drivers for GTX 970. However, it froze the computer after about 30 minutes. I have yet to try it again.
