KDE developer thinks they will become the 'Windows or Android' of the FOSS world

If one DE becomes pretty popular and kinda the default choice, doesn't mean other good DE's have to go away. So yeah, let's have a star front-runner.

8-16 players on each side... what you're saying is someone needs to run some dedicated servers with free, public access and then pay a Twitch streamer to rally their followers to play this game on stream. Seems like the developer needs to hire out some marketing help if he doesn't want to take care of those kind of things. The game sounds cool, but if it requires that many players and there are none, then my couple friends would not be enough to form a team.

Kinda stinks that only 10% of the donations goes to the prize pool. Looking forward to what comes out of this.

It'll stink to generate a new world, but I'm gonna have to for this. The new landscape looks so good.

KDE Discover gets update to prevent you breaking your Linux system

Quoting: Liam Dawe
Quoting: Beamboom
Quoting: AussieEeveeThere is a tiny little warning blended in with all the other white noise on the screen, and blaming Linus is just silly.

TINY? lol - dude, there's TWO explicit warnings, very clearly put, AND info on what exact packages are about to be installed, AND you're asked to type a bloody SENTENCE to get through with it.
If that ain't clear enough then you're not really mature to use a system that gives you full control.

With great powers comes great responsibilities - and that goes for the package managers too. Most definitely.

But if you're after a OS that completely PADS you inside a fuzzy box where you can do nothing to harm you - well then Linux is not, was never and hopefully never will be your right choice.
It's a real shame to see such elitist nonsense being posted here. It's techno jargon in the errors, crammed around lots of overloading info that even "power users" screw up on. There is a reason why the term "sane defaults" even exists. Unless we want Linux on the desktop to continue to be gated by zealots and remain irrelevant, we have to appeal to users who don't have the time and patience to relearn every single thing and study all error messages, just to stop their system breaking.
The trouble is appeasing everybody. I'm on Beamboom's side as far as not wanting my system choices taken away. On the other hand, everybody should ideally be able to find a GNU system that they like to use. So what is the issue here? The more protective distributions are not the "bleeding edge" gamer choice. Linus mentioned some gamer-oriented distros that they found but decided against those on purpose so that they could act like a regular Joe searching the 'net and trying out a popular one. So, he purposefully decided against the distro he probably should have tried out.

That said, I don't blame the distro or package manager for his mistake of pushing through an obnoxious error.

Proton Experimental update fixes up DEATHLOOP, Forza Horizon 5 and more

I am honestly tempted to get Forza if it works over Proton. However, running it via Proton is unsupported enough for me; I'll wait until the fixes get past Experimental. Another thing making me hesitate is I'll miss out on max graphics with my GPU.

EDIT: So I went and found a video where someone with my card actually ran through the graphics presets. Perfect. Looks like I could run it at High with a good framerate. That's good news.

Looks cute. I'm curious what was going on when the screen split into three perspectives. I see at their Itch page that there are three characters in the game. But there no indication of multiplayer.

I must admit I got a bit bored. All that grinding really eroded my patience away, so I haven't reconnected since I finished the battle pass.
Grinding for what? I'm still at a loss as to what's the point of getting XP. I just play to win.

Time to update your Raspberry Pi with the new OS based on Debian 'bullseye'

Quoting: 14Who has a Pi anymore? It's the age of Pine64, Odroid, etc. :)

Plenty of reasons for me (UK citizen) to use Raspberry Pi instead of your suggestions:

- Easy to find it in multiple UK online stores.
- Better priced SBC than alternatives in the UK market.
- Much bigger community of users, so easier to find guidance and support for your projects.
- Many more books and magazines available.
- The Raspberry Pi 4 + 64 bit OS is FASTER than ODroid-C4 + 64 bit OS. (and other specs ~ equivalent)
- The Pi has much bigger range of dedicated peripheral devices, cases, accessories.
- I'd have to ship from USA or use AliExpress to get Pine64 or Odroid SBC boards. (Shipping + customs = extra cost)
- The Pi devices have better support, i.e. better software reliability, less flakiness.
- The Pine64 RockPro64 is quite a nice SBC, but somewhat more expensive than a Pi, and I'd need to import it.
- Oh, and it supports the local UK tech industry (Pi board assembly plant is based in UK) which I'm all for, too.

Maybe you are comparing new Odroids with old Raspberry Pis ?
A lot of those points are higher concerns for yourself than they are for me.

- I'm willing to buy online and wait
- The Odroid C4 was $56 last year when I was shopping. Pi4 is $55 at local stores here right now. I believe they were very close a year ago.
- I tend to go for bleeding edge and anti-mainstream, so larger community and better support don't mean nothing to me, but not that high of weighting.
- The performance difference you say has me curious. I'd like more details and if local storage was tested (SD, eMMC).
- It's possible the Pi is more reliable across a variety of uses, but my alternative SBC's have been great for me.
- Check out the Pine H64

And then, finally, one of the larger factors for me that you didn't mention is a lot of alternative boards run open source GPU drivers. The Pi's use closed source, proprietary drivers.
