What have you been playing recently and what do you think about it?

"Pillars of Eternity" - working my way through this quite slowly, as I'm enjoying the ride. I'm finding this more satisfying than the isometric RPGs from the classic era. I wish I had more time to spend on it, as I want to play Tyranny before PoEII arrives.

"Shovel Knight" - I was a bit disappointed by this. Push-scrollers were lame enough in the 1980s. The platforming is well done, but the controls aren't the best.

"Chaos Reborn" - I love this game, but there are nowhere near enough players. I hadn't played it for ages but I have a few asynchronous games running just now. Generally getting my arse handed to me.

"Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection" - especially "Bridges".

I picked up Morrowind in the GOG sale a couple of days ago and have been playing with the previous version of OpenMW. It is a really neat project. Love it.

Super Jagua, a platformer inspired by Super Mario Bros is now on Linux, key giveaway

Thanks for the key, Liam. In the spirit of fair trade, if anyone wants my NWN key from the recent GOG giveaway, let me know.

I've been looking for a new platformer for a while, so this suits me fine.

My top list of must-have strategy games on Linux as of right now
25 Nov 2016 at 3:32 pm UTC

My top 3:

- Crusader Kings II: I have lost too much of my life to this one.
- Chaos Reborn: Gollop is the strategy king and this would be my number 1, but the game lobbies are a bit empty
- Battle for Wesnoth: close to perfection

Wine allowed me to re-live a gaming experience I had from when I was a child on Linux

For me, WINE is no different from having something like the Steam Runtime. I'd be happy if games officially supported "Windows + WINE" as targets rather than "Windows, Mac and SteamOS".

Quoting: neowiz73I think it could be my Roccat mouse, since I've notice in other games where the roccat is actually detected as a "controller" sometimes. which I think the game auto assigns my mouse as Player 1 and my Steam controller is considered an extra input.
You could see if your mouse is listed on the blacklist database [External Link]. If it isn't there, add the vendor and product id to the generate_rules.py script and regenerate. Copy the udev rule to /etc/udev/rules.d/ and restart udev (or reboot) to see if it fixes things. If it does, consider sending a pull request so it can be added to the list.

No Man's Sky has been shown to work rather well in Wine on Linux

The problem about buying a game to run on Wine is there is no guarantee the game is going to keep running when a new version or patch is released. I do buy windows games to run on Wine (the last one being Dragon Age Origins on GOG) but only if they are cheap/on sale and don't rely on an online connection (where version upgrades can be forced). I'd prefer more native Linux games, but I'm a pragmatist.

Godot Engine 2.1 released, open source game engine

It is fantastic for 2d and acceptable for 3d games. We use it for 3d educational simulations at work. There's a smooth workflow from Blender which makes life easy. The developers are helpful. 2 thumbs up from me.
