System Shock Pre-Alpha Demo now available on Linux, nearing stretch goal
17 Jul 2016 at 7:28 am UTC

Quoting: ShmerlWill GOG add the Linux demo as well? I'll back them when they'll reach the stretch goal.

Why exactly do they propose building SDL from source? SDL2 is commonly packaged in all distros. And especially doing make install is a bad idea. If you need to build it that way, place it locally. Never do make install.
The SDL2 default configuration will install under the /usr/local prefix, so should not clash with package manager installed packages on any sane distribution. It has had several important fixes over the past couple of years, so historic versions in old distributions may not cut the mustard.

Quoting: wojtek88Hmm honestly I don't know. I've applied both fixes from your link and none of them worked. I don't see a way to determine if that's the problem I'm having.

What I also see is that whenever I press the "X" button on the controller, Steam behaves like it would be permanently pressed and launches a first game in the list of recently played. After I close the game it seems to work fine for a while.

@mcphail any ideas from your side?
Sorry. No further ideas, I'd had similar issues with the XB360 controller with the xpad driver, but we've tracked those down and it is fixed in the most recent version. I assume the PS4 controller driver doesn't share any code with xpad?

Quoting: wojtek881) I've finally made my dualshock 4 controller to work with Don't Starve Together in wireless mode. The problem is that it does not work correctly with Steam in big picture (from time to time overlay kicks in, in big picture sometimes controller starts to behave like y-axis is moved down, and in general it starts to be unusable)
By any chance, are you having issues with your keyboard or mouse being wrongly detected as a controller? I had this issue, and Steam Big Picture mode would behave as if my XB360 controller was always pressing "up". I fixed it by using a udev blacklist for my wireless keyboard/mouse [External Link].

Quoting: WienerWuerstel@mcphail Try playing The Longest Journey with the latest build of ResidualVM instead. Works much better.
Thanks for the tip! Seems to work well.

I'd been planning to start work on The Longest Journey and Dreamfall:TLJ, with a view to knowing the back story before starting Dreamfall Chapters. However, I've been playing the "failing to get a game running on Wine" thing instead.

Armory 3D, a new game engine for Blender that will be open source
15 Jun 2016 at 7:20 am UTC

We've been using Godot for our interactive educational materials, which works extremely well for us with scenes exported from Blender. Personally, I'd rather Godot gained developer mind share to advance their 3d engine than have another competitor in the same sphere. But I accept the Godot 3d engine isn't fully up to par yet, and this project looks nice.

Julian Gollop, creator of the original X-COM is planning a new strategy game named Phoenix Point, it will support Linux
27 May 2016 at 9:33 pm UTC

I'll happily kick-start this one, as I did for Chaos Reborn. I've ploughed more hours into Julian's games than everything else combined.

Feral Interactive officially announce F1 2015 is coming to Linux on May 26th, properly this time
24 May 2016 at 9:47 pm UTC

I'd foolishly bought F1 2014 ages ago based on a rumour it was coming to Linux. Sadly, it wasn't to be. But, from my brief spell of playing it on Windows, it was quite fun. So this will definitely be a post-payday buy for me. Hopefully the textures won't pop in and out as much as F1 2014, which was quite distracting.

Sunday chat: what games have kept you busy with week?
15 May 2016 at 9:58 am UTC

I've been finding my way through the initial stages of Might and Magic IV & V World of Xeen, but have probably spent more time trying to get it to run on DosBox on my phone than playing the damned thing. Hoping to get it working to keep me entertained on a long flight.

Saints Row 2 & Saints Row: The Third released for Linux & SteamOS, also on sale
14 Apr 2016 at 5:14 pm UTC

They stutter badly on Windows, so I'd be surprised if they run better on Linux. Looking forward to trying them on Ubuntu, though!
