HDR and Colour Management patches for Steam Deck + AMD GPUs under review
24 Apr 2023 at 4:02 pm UTC

Quoting: LamdarerTo be fair FireFox doesnt even have HDR support on Windows. Would be nice if it gets a push once Linux has HDR support. (maybe even before Chromium get's it under Linux?)
Me personally, can't care more for Firefox and other browsers with HDR.
Media Players, that's what I want. And games.
Rest of Windows in my GUI, is a bonus.

Most youtube content is not HDR anyway. And stuff that advertises itself as one, is usually not HDR either.

Driver updates for AMD RADV to give nice boost for Linux and Steam Deck

Quoting: whizseYou're thinking of AMDVLK, the driver from AMD. It's not widely used but I'm not sure if half-baked is the correct description.
You are right thanks for correction.

Driver updates for AMD RADV to give nice boost for Linux and Steam Deck

Who uses RADV?
Isn't AMDGPU the most prevalent AMD driver on Linux?
I was under impression that RADV is half baked driver implementation from AMD directly?
Did something change in a while or?

Its not April yet...

Valve doesn't need much to make a Steam Deck 2 a huge success

Thery can minimize reputation hit by releasing device early, if all or most 3rd party bells and whistles like memory cards, cases etc, are cross compatible between gen 1 and gen 2 devices.

Wayland driver for Wine is getting closer

Quoting: lejimsterI keep trying to switch over to Wayland, but there is always a few quirks on gnome that wind me up and put me off using it full time, I really should test KDE as it's probably just gnome issues. Anyway, I wonder if this will have any benefits over gamescope? Even less latency? I was planning to do some testing with gamescope as it works so well on the steam deck but I haven't got around to it yet. Does anyone here run gamescope on their PC?
I'm on KDE and I have the impression from the internet discussions that Wayland on GNOME is considered more stable/mature/whatever. There are some bugs or absent features in KDE that may make Wayland experience worse. I'm still on X11 and waiting. You can track some of the problems here: https://community.kde.org/Plasma/Wayland_Showstoppers [External Link]
You can have both, X11 and Wayland on same machine.
Thats what I have. gnome 3 for wayland(albeit i can use it with Xorg too) and XFCE4 for X11(because if I could have XFCE4 on Wayland - id have this one instead).

I do, and it's hit and miss. When it works - it works. When it doesn't, well, it doesn't...

Ubisoft just broke their games on Linux desktop and Steam Deck

Quoting: basedPointless launchers are convenience for the publisher, not the user
I wouldn't argue, if Windows users were affected too. But it is not the case...

Linux users who depend on proton, MUST remember, that at any time their fav game can be broken for any reason.(unless dev specifically supports proton, which I don't know how many such devs are out there)
