Lutris adds Amazon Games integration, plus Flatpak finally out (good for Steam Deck)

Quoting: BlackBloodRumhat's interesting, I thought lutris already had flatpak? At least, the lutris on my steam deck was a flatpak I'll have to go replace whichever unofficial one I have installed with the official one, for some reason in my head I thought it an was official flatpak

You gotta be so careful with flatpak's with their origins
An official flatpak beta has existed for a while. It is legit but beta and not on flathub :)

Edit: Here is the link [External Link].
Yup this was it! Turns out my deck already has 0.5.11 installed

Albeit back in early August[1], so no wonder I forgot!

Quoting: BumadarI am not sure its a lutris problem or wine in general, need to test more when I have time. But I wanted my lutris install directory on my nas, it's mounted via nfs and works just fine with steam, loads of room and more then fast enough for gog games, however using lutris I can not install any gog game using the gog installer, it's simply ends with code 256. Any other gog install method like native Linux or dosbox etc works just fine, just the games that need the gog installer. Moving the whole thing to a local drive, install and move to nfs works but a bit of a hassle. Anyways as I said not sure if it's lutris or wine in general.
Are you using the flatpak version of lutris? I don't really use flatpaks much, but I do know they sandbox with additional layers of security/protection. Preventing access to network filesystems is definitely something sandboxey things do. Hopefully someone that actually uses flatpak can comment.
Flatpak has additional protection to a degree. Just be sure to check which permissions you're granting, because you could end up granting full system access (that includes full access to all drives).

Don't assume just because it's in a flatpak that it's fully sandboxed. That's a myth since a flatpak can just request access to everything and if you hit "yes" then it will have that access. It's only sandboxed properly if the permissions are set correctly (this is why you should install flatseal and review permissions of apps and adjust accordingly)

Just like any security, it almost always boils down to the users decisions which have the biggest impact.

Anyway with that said Bumadar, check the flatpak permissions with flatseal for your lutris as you may need to grant access to other directories.

I've also found sometimes Lutris doesn't download gog installers correctly when in a flatpak (doesn't move them or something and spits out "can't find file" despite the file being there, and as soon as you click okay it just deletes everything it downloaded so you have to start over (super annoying for big games)

That's my biggest annoyance with Lutris right now. The solution is simple if you have gog games, download them yourself using lgogdownloader and then just point Lutris to the downloaded installer location.

Steam Deck 2 is absolutely coming, new booklet from Valve confirms

Quoting: BlackBloodRumMultiplayer on a sim card? Yikes it'd be lag city on the UK networks, where I am we have flaky 4G that often drops down to 3G or even 2G
The Deck could also be used to have a larger display for browsing the web on the go where at the moment people take a tablet with them.

I don't think we can defeat this pressure to be online for a singleplayer game so it would benefit compatibility if you could just plug in a sim card and be able to start more games.
I'm not against the device having a sim slot for those that want it. I just feel it should be optional (So you could use the device just the same, even if no sim is inserted.)

I'd be fine with the device having a sim slot that's optional to use

Quoting: soulsourceIf it were only DRM one could just download a crack... Publishers got more creative than that in recent years, and started to force asynchronous multiplayer gameplay elements into single-player games...
Yeah.. I tend to avoid buying those ones. That's still DRM in my book as it affects your rights on how you use the product. And those games do eventually get "unofficially patched"

For example, I own all the Assassin's Creed games w/ all their DLC on Steam and I quickly got sick of UPlay forcing me to enter my password every time I press "play" in steam (It's annoying because it means opening my password manager every single time, and ubisoft confirmed it was intentional[1]).

I patched every single one of those games, even the ones with "multiplayer gameplay elements". So unlike other new owners of AC2's DLC[2], I was able to activate and use my DLC, other users can't do that legally because Ubisoft already disabled DLC activation for that game, so you're paying for a single player DLC you can't use  (yes, even if you purchased it)

The other more "legal" option is to try to find the same game on GOG, often those don't require the DRM. For example mafia definitive edition:
https://www.gog.com/en/game/mafia_definitive_edition [External Link]

You'll see the notice below:
The DRM-Free version of Mafia: Definitive Edition does not support signing up for a 2K account, therefore 2K account bonus content and bonus content acquired for owning other Mafia titles on GOG are not available.
Although a few games slipped through GOG's anti-drm net sadly and they seem to be getting a little sloppy on what they call "DRM".

Anyway, I'm not a fan of DRM and I've opposed it for many years, I've been a FOSS supporter for many years so it's difficult for me to accept having my rights restricted and I will fight it.

Anyway, I can't get too much into this topic because of the rules though, and I don't want to accidentally start an argument again so I'll leave it at this

Quoting: BlackBloodRumI don't think Steam Deck 2 is any time soon, remember we're working on Valve Time here

Quoting: tpauMore Open?
Maybe the Steam Launcher will become partially opensource so people can integrate other platforms and it still looks like it was done by valve by default?

For Deck2 it would be nice if we get a sim card slot and 5g compatibility. So you can truly play on the road without having to go through the hassle of creating a wifi hotspot with your cellphone.
That's one method of doing it. The other method (which I'd prefer, since a sim card would mean extra expenses) is to simply make the device work while offline properly.
That doesn't help with multiplayer or single-player-always-online-because-we-hate-our-customers games.
Multiplayer on a sim card? Yikes it'd be lag city on the UK networks, where I am we have flaky 4G that often drops down to 3G or even 2G

As for those other games.. yeah just don't buy those or if you do patch them or complain to the developers

Sadly that's an artefact of gamers being happy and accepting of always-online DRM saying "it's for the best".

Quoting: gradyvuckovicGood to see Valve taking this initiative. Never underestimate the value of localisation. About 95% of the world don't speak English as a first language, and 75% don't speak English at all.

Would be nice to see some more Linux distro websites translated as well. Hard to promote your distro to the majority of the planet if the majority of the planet can't read it.

For a quick sample, the following websites are only available in English as far as I can tell from looking at the homepage of their websites:
- https://linuxmint.com/ [External Link]
- https://manjaro.org/ [External Link]
- https://ubuntu.com/ [External Link]
- https://archlinux.org/ [External Link]
- https://www.centos.org/ [External Link]
- https://endeavouros.com/ [External Link]
- https://getsol.us/home/ [External Link]
- https://www.gentoo.org/ [External Link]

Shoutout to these websites for having numerous translations available on a visible dropdown on their homepage:
- https://getfedora.org/ [External Link]
- https://www.debian.org/ [External Link]
- https://www.opensuse.org/ [External Link]
I think some of those do have other languages, for example arch:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Category:Languages [External Link]

Try setting your browser to another language, often this can trip websites into displaying a non-english version in the case of other languages being available. Doesn't always work ofc.

Valve testing new mobile Steam app with QR codes for sign ins

Quoting: BlackBloodRumValve just remembered they have a mobile app!

With that said, I hope it doesn't interfere with the current 2FA system too much - as with the current system I have it working in KeePassXC and don't require the app every time I need to login on my desktop (which is frequent due to my VPN)

So hopefully they haven't changed / altered the 2FA code system.
Does that handle entering the code for you? That's pretty slick.
Yup. But bear in mind it can be a little tricky getting your 2FA secret key out of the current android app, as for the new one? no idea!

With KeePassXC once your 2FA is all setup in the DB, you can just have autotype set to:

{USERNAME}{TAB}{PASSWORD}{ENTER}{DELAY 9999}{TOTP}{ENTER}

(Long delay because it likes to take it's time to show the 2FA input box sometimes.

So I just clear the username field, hit "perform auto type" and poof I'm logged back in.

Now if Valve support Yubikey's on the other hand.. that would be great, considering how much value could potentially be held in an account due to the games!

(Thankfully not my account, My account only has around 360 games or so, so it's not worth stealing to anyone )

Don't worry! If you get a good SD card you won't even notice that you're running off an SD card. Certainly not to the point of feeling "slower load times"

I have two SD Cards and use them for games without any performance degradation, despite having the 512GB model

So no worries!
That's what I'm hoping. Of course at this point anything better than the switch will be like lighting. Switch games tend to take forever to load, especially if they're off a cart. Baffles me to no end why they made the game carts slower than reading of an SD card.
Especially with my A2 V30 (sandisk extreme pro, samsung pro plus) cards, I really don't feel a difference. Have an additional 1TB A1 for emulation (sandisk ultra) and while I don't feel a difference for emulation, I wouldn't put witcher3 or gta on that :D
Yup. I myself have two modest Samsung 512GB Pro Plus cards and have run games like God of War on them with no problems!

So long as your card is legit (not a fake from amazon) you should be golden!
