Of course o load of bad companies would like it to be illegal, but it's not.
It's illegal to copy code verbatim, but "reverse engineering" implies this is not the case.

Yes it would be nice to have contemporary ports; but at least they exist.

Quoting: no_information_hereWait, what? It's already out for Linux. Rune too; Kingpin as well. Been for years.Quoting: rea987Sid Meier's Alpha CentauriYou have a great list, but this one jumped out at me. It would be a perfect project for Icculus.

Sadly, your wishes are of no use. What Icculus needs is permission and source code. Unless you do have access to these of the games you name, don't even bother.

For instance, some people think copyright is not strong enough, others think it's way too strong, but the extremist positions in that debate are a) that copyright should last forever, whereas the other extremist position is b) that copyright should be abolished. Since my position is that copyright should not be abolished but return to pre-1841 levels, I think the idea that copyright should last after the death of the artist is already an extremist idea.

Quoting: EikeYou're talking about something completely different. "Extremism" per se just means you have in some area a position that goes far beyond what most people think even as outlying.Quoting: SeegrasYour extremism is somebody elses mainstream. And "not giving extremism a platform" is thus nothing else but an extremist position in itself.Really?
Karl Popper about the problem ( "paradox of tolerance" ):

Would that be "Fraud" or "Broken"?
But I guess I should wait some, in order for them to be able to fix the problem. In the end, I'm most interested in having Linux games, not in enraging the publishers/developers.

Quoting: noxOut of curiosity, what happens when you report the ones with a linux-icon and no executable to valve?I now added my post by a list of them.

Quoting: tuubiI don't think fraud attempts, hate mongering and racism need a legitimate platform, and neither does extremism of any sort.Your extremism is somebody elses mainstream. And "not giving extremism a platform" is thus nothing else but an extremist position in itself.

Quoting: KeyrockHeck, Steam's had some games on it in the past with missing executables.Right now. I have 32 games that are missing executables on Linux. All these have a Linux depot. Three of them have Windows executables in the Linux depot. Three others only have the soundtrack in the depot.
