Linux game sales statistics from multiple developers, part 5

Quoting: manus76Why has this thread turned into 'Apple is an evil corporation' diatribe? I thought it was about Linux gaming and I can't recall seeing anyone putting a gun to people's heads, forcing them to buy an Apple product (or Microsoft's for that matter). At least not where I live.
Lots of bad things happen in this world without anyone putting a gun to anyone's head. People's children starve in the streets without anyone having put a gun to anyone's head. Nestle executives conspired to have third world babies die of disease without putting guns to anyone's head. The idea that if something happens subtly it didn't really happen is pernicious and helps a lot of people get away with a lot of really bad stuff.
Of course those things are true but why not use the technology industry as an example. Too contentious? Anybody here willing to boycott cobalt or graphite in the interest of saving lives? Who here REALLY wants to live with the consequences of making a stand against corporate abuse of human rights? The point is, many people seem to take on causes for no other reason than to facilitate their need to compete. Hence the constant stream of Microsoft and Apple comments on Linux forums.

Quoting: PeciskSure, but then disqualify PC altogether, because best AAA games are on consoles these days. PC market is big, sure, but console market just guarantees that sweet sweet revenue. There's good reason why Arkham Knight was canned for PC altogether.
What am I missing? Arkham Knight is available for PC. http://store.steampowered.com/app/208650/Batman_Arkham_Knight/ [External Link]

Quoting: MakiI personally think Curators are the worst thing Valve could have added. There's no opt-out in seeing them except for blocking the UI-elements showing them.
Even worse than the extra 10,000 crappy games that early access and greenlight introduced? Curators help me filter out that cruft.

The Starcraft vibe is strong here. Obviously that's a good thing.

We are using Linux after all, not Windows, so you can answer your own question. There is no reason to make such clients closed, except for DRM. DRM can't be open by definition.

Regarding drivers, you can switch to AMD, and use open ones.
The thing that holds his argument together is the bit about games. In other words how do you keep your Open Source morals intact while maintaining an interesting in commercial Linux gaming? If you are playing closed source games, true believers would say: you already sold your sold to the devil and may as well make peace with that.

Quoting: ertuquequeIt is indeed quite annoying the clickbait tendency of Phoronix title articles... not to mention the absolutely unjustified "Capitalization Of Every Word In His News Titles". People don't seem to understand that this stupid habit just creates confusion when reading it!

Anyway, I agree with @rkfg's comment that according to Netmarketshare's update, Linux has reached an "all time high" market share... I check every month their updates and I take this increase as very likely due to last months WannaCry and Petya's attacks to the Windows ecosystem. I think it's realistic to think that some Windows users and/or institutions would dip their toes in Linux over the past few weeks to see if they do the switch... Maybe some of them actually did.
Interesting. I must confess I thought all the words in a title were supposed to be capitalised until I further researched your post. One learns something everyday.

Wish I changed so little over the last 35 years. We should at least be grateful that it looks better which is not something that could be said of me.

The developers of Mantis Burn Racing are open to bringing the game to Linux, if there’s enough interest

Quoting: FeistHuh, long ago I was very fond of an arcade game that was called "Super Sprint" and later I also enjoyed "Death Rally" on PC. This looks similar to both of those and I don´t think I have seen someting like it on linux, so I´ll certainly add my voice to a porting.
Ah, i played that on the arcades as well, and on the ZX Spectrum. Similar to 3D stock car championship as well, View video on youtube.com
That frame rate :)

Super Sprint however was exhilarating on those 4 player machines in the arcades. One of my favourite games from back in the day.

Armor Clash II looks like a cheap RTS that could end up being fun, releasing soon

If the price is right it looks worth a punt just for nostalgic reasons alone. Huge shame about the lack of online support though.
