I didn't have time to try Proton/Steam Play yet but I'm guessing this also means full SteamLink support, isn't it? If this is the case, I'm even happier.
As commented earlier in the post, I really hope GOG also starts wrapping more games with the available tools. For instance, albeit late, it would be a nice gesture towards Linux peace to do it with The Withcer 3. I guess my games in Origin (Mass Effect Saga) won't have the same luck, but still.
Happy days.

This is absolutely amazing. I only can see good things happening to our community out of this move. What a great time to be a Linux gamer.
My sincere thanks to Valve, Wine project, Dxvk and everyone involved directly or indirectly.
Now, as a purple friend of mine would say; I feel like I could... take on the world!

In the long run, gaming on PC might not be necessarily much more expensive.

Quoting: 14Not the right forum to talk about this, but whilst it's true bying components for PC is more expensive buying games is cheaper. By tens of £/€/$ in many cases. Not taking into account the payment of the network system or the fact that a game bought in PC usually can be played in different systems (Linux, Mac, Windows) and for many years to come, if not forever, thanks to software like Wine or DosBox independently of the PC you have. On the other hand, in most cases, a same game in console needs to be bought again in the new system if one does not have the original it was released on.Quoting: Whitewolfe80Right. It comes down to value to the buyer. I am not arguing that one should play console instead of PC. But, for some, it's more economical. And, when consoles just release, they can be better performance for your money. Now that the current gen systems have been out for a few years, yes, PC components are good for your money in comparison.Quoting: 14$500 for the least expensive one. No thanks. You are not wrong, but a console has many many drawbacks but that has always been the downside of pc gaming yes it offers a far superior gaming experience than a console however upgrading a pc is expensive if you intend to keep it bleeding edge however a console is a one and done expense. But given a 750 ti @ 1080p either out performs or performs the same as a base xbox 1 and ps4 given most console games the equivlent pc setting is either med/high but in some more demanding games when its upscaled from 900p like last of us remastered its more like 1600x900 high.
Believe me when I say that I spend 80% or more of my gaming time on PC. Still, I can't convince myself that a $500 video card is worth it when you can buy an entire console gaming system for $300. Come on.
In the long run, gaming on PC might not be necessarily much more expensive.

Quoting: dubigrasuI was waiting for the these cards to hit the market, not because I intend to buy one (way too expensive) but because it means I will be finally be able to get a GTX 1080ti, which will serve me for another few good years. My last Nvidia card was a GTX 780ti, which is still a very good card (although a bit power hungry). How safe is to get a pre-owned card on eBay? With this kind of items I'm always scared the previous owner overclocked them a lot or any other heavy use, resulting in an early breakage.
Prices for 1080ti already dropped significantly (at least on Ebay), and is a hell of a good card to have, with no current rivals.
I am also somewhat tempted to wait and see AMD's counter-offer, but who knows how long will that take.

Can't believe how quickly the development goes. It seems to have gotten lots of attention and momentum, hopefully all that effort and time invested isn't diluted in the ocean in the near future.

It's a shame they're dropping support for the game but seeing their reasons we can't really blame them. Of course, we could say choosing the wrong framework adn so on but we aren't in a position to oblige devs to use one framework or the other.
On the other hand, about the 1/4 of gains from the cost... well, it's ta vicious circle. If there isn't a proper supported port, there aren't sells. If they don't sell, the port isn't profiterol* and so on.
Anyway, I liked the first one so much that I bought the other 2, and the boardgame, regardless of their support. Both are playable under Wine, if someone is interested.
* I like profiterols more than profitable.
