I had some trouble getting my PS4 controller working in this game, until I realized that the issues were caused by Steam.
I'm now launching it with the Steam client closed, and the PS4 controller is working like a charm. Of course I won't get any achievements, but who cares about those?

Quoting: Eike
Quoting: soulsourceI've played the demo at Gamescom.
Did it create a good atmosphere for you? From looks and description, it reminds me of Oxenfree, a game I don't remember for great game mechanics either, but did like...
Yep, exactly that. The atmosphere is perfect. Only thing: It needs time to relax, the game is quite slow.

I've played the demo at Gamescom. The game is surprisingly fun, although the mechanics (at least of the first few levels) are really simple (forward, back, interact).
Also, people who have been growing up in the 1990s will enjoy the nostalgia.

I'll definitely buy it on release day.

That's what Valve recommends, but it's been running fine for me on Debian Sid with Mesa 18.1.6 and LLVM 6.0.1.
Well, I tried it for one (not whitelisted) game, and had a GPU-hang almost immediately.

NVIDIA are working towards better support for NVIDIA Optimus on Linux

Why can't nVidia just use the same functionality that is working like a charm with the Nouveau (the open source community nVidia driver) and the AMD drivers?

I'm of course talking about DRI PRIME, which has been working as good as Craptimus works on Windows (what is really not that good - screen tearing and stuff) for the last two years on my Gentoo-laptop.

What I would be curious about is why for a turn based strategy game like Civ floating point math has to yield the same results on server and client. I would naively have expected that all gameplay relevant code runs on the server, and that the game's state is replicated to clients. It's not like clients would need accurate prediction in a turn based game... For purely visual calculations it does not matter if they aren't yielding exactly the same results.
I know that there are other multiplayer design patterns that indeed do require client side floating point math to perfectly match server side calculations, but afaik those are mainly used in real time strategy, as there the client needs immediate feedback and expects to see correct results. As the Civ VI developers seem to have taken such an approach, I'd be really curious what their reasons were.

<sarcasm>Whoa, that's like a totally new game concept! And all the mechanics shown in the video make it absolutely clear that it's not just a 1:1 clone of another successful title.</sarcasm>

What are you playing this weekend and what do you think about it?

I'll probably play a lot of Tangledeep. It's strangely addictive, trying again and again to get a bit further up in the dungeon.
