Sudden Strike 4 heads to Africa in the new DLC out now, cross-platform multiplayer not coming

it would require too much effort to get that working without lags and disconnects
That's an interesting way to say "We just developed the network code for one system and didn't know that this could lead to problems with cross platform multiplayer. Whooops, we should have seen this coming..."

Quoting: EikeThey way to treating everybody the same is not denying their differences.
Absolutely! Everybody should have the same rights and should be treated equally, no matter who they are.

Quoting: KelsThis is why we need a Skyrim port for Linux. All those axes to grind, and no way to boost your blacksmithing skill.
I'm not sure how you mean that? Is that an insider for Skyrim players?

Quoting: heidi.wengerWe live in a time of great change and such times always include some insanity which will pass in time. Some real life people change their gender identification in their heads each week you know.
The weird thing is that exactly those people who constantly remind others that gender doesn't matter are those who put great effort into creating new categories, pronouns and names for the thing that isn't supposed to matter in the first place. In a rather ironic turn of events, those who fight categories are masters of putting themselves into ever more categories. Those who demand to be treated equally demand to be treated differently by inventing new pronouns and words and requesting the usage of those from others. They separate themselves from so called "normal cis het people" and demand to be dealt with as if they were the same.

Insanity indeed.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleCaptain Piper, the captain of the ship, the only squad member you cannot not play is female.
I remember that it wasn't really touched on in this game. It was one of those games that didn't make a fuss about gender - like we all should. The main char just happened to be female. That's it.

Quoting: KimyrielleI guess if male protagonists will ever be grossly underrepresented and marginalized in gaming in the same way female characters are today, it might actually be a thing!
I think female game characters are not being marginalized. To marginalize someone is an active thing one does. Are there any pointers at all that there is marginalization going on in the gaming world today or at any time?

An update on the status of porting Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation for Linux

Thanks for the answer! I think I'll take a look at the benchmark tool of it.

But honestly, I'm not sure how much this benchmark is able to say about a configuration and tuning. From my memory, it was very badly optimized and looked quite shoddy for its performance. Anyway, I love me some benchmark from time to time. Gonna check that out.

Quoting: PikoloIt will be very interesting how Ashes of the Benchmark Vulkan performance compares between Linux and Windows. I've heard Stardock literally set the bar on performance optimizations in the Windows version of the game, so it should give us another interesting comparison between different Vulkan drivers.
I'm not sure what "Ashes of the Benchmark" means. I know that I tested AotS and it was one of the worst performing games I've ever seen. I had to play on the lowest settings in order to get playable frame rates. The game looked like some kind of badly done remaster of a decade old game. Just one explosion of a building resulted in single digit frame rate. It was awful. Did it get better?

Game store itch releases a brand new client, plus a small interview

I think it would be a good idea if self-updating can be switched off. I'd rather have the package manager update the software and the Debian maintainers checking each new release before uploading the package.

Impressive side-scrolling shooter Huge Enemy - Worldbreakers is out, has a demo

At first sight, a shmup with mouse aiming doesn't seem to be my cup of tea, but there's a demo, so why not try it out. 7 Gigs are rather unexpected for such a game, though. I bet it's a Unity game.

Edit: Yep, it's a Unity game. The mouse input is infuriating. The game is going below 60fps even when only a few enemies are on the screen. With many bullets and explosions it goes even below 30fps. The result is that the frame pacing is dancing all over the place. That is pretty much the killer of any shmup, especially a bullet hell shmup.

I don't have the newest graphic card, but a GTX 760 should be able to run this with absolute ease. Sturmwind looks better than this game and has no problems running in perfect 60fps on the Dreamcast.
