Quoting: GuestWhich is a shame, because they were well poised to become the standard distro that could have been the reference against gaming development. And they had as Valve for years had and still has the official Steam Runtime based of off versions found in previous Ubuntu repositories. Valve still has the Steam installer as a .deb file.
AMD Zen looks like it will release at CES in January 2017

Quoting: GuestActually the memory bandwidth will likely be the bottleneck as APUs may still only use dual-channel memory controllers.Quoting: meggermanIs buying a CPU only a good idea given the APU 4 core will most likely be enough for gaming at QHD/4k with Vulkan ? I have been running an APU as a CPU + dedicated card but i wonder if with FOSS AMD drivers we will see interesting APU+Dedicated crossfire support giving much more performance than just CPU+GPU alone ?Just to clarify: Vulkan won't make the GPU component of an APU much better really. The graphics hardware itself will likely be a bottleneck, not the CPU side of things. My guess is that any integrated graphics solution in the short term will have trouble at 4k.
Other than that, i can't wait for this. Either way my next Linux rig is AMD+AMD. Not AMD+Nvidia, nvidia just aren't going to be as competitive as AMD on Linux going forward ( can't believe it's possible to type that )
Fancy playing Quake with the Vulkan API? Now you can

Quoting: ProfessorKaos64Adding packages (or rather the PKGBUILDS) to the AUR is quite simple really. I could help you with that if you'd like.Quoting: mr-egg@ProfessorKaos64I started one at https://github.com/ProfessorKaos64/arch-aur-packages/ [External Link], but it needs some work yet. When I feel satisfied, i'll see how I get that to the AUR.
Quoting: ProfessorKaos64Totally making a package out of this for SteamOS. droolWhile were on the topic, it would be totally cool to get a few Arch packages made up for this so its not just Debian / Ubuntu that get all the SteamOS fun..

im using SteamOS session on my Debian build and id really like the feature for Manjaro/Arch <3
I never have added something to the AUR, but I don't believe it's that difficult.
Sunday chat: What have you been playing, and what do you think?

Towerfall Ascension plus the Dark World expansion
I absolutely love this game for the its light weight and the amount of fun my friends and I have playing it.
HammerWatch
Also fun but can be incredibly tedious if not downright frustrating with the amount of mobs and the size of the mobs that exist on certain floors in the campaigns.

Quoting: NyamiouYes as that patch does, DualShock 3 controllers work well via BlueZ. Unfortunately, DualShock 4 controllers (on my system at least) still need to plugged in in order to function properly. This is something I'm working on for the next patch seeing as this one just works.Quoting: InverseTelecineThey patched bluez to have the feature. See this : https://github.com/ValveSoftware/SteamOS/issues/479 [External Link]Quoting: leillo1975DualShock 3 bluetooth! It's greatSeriously?? I knew that DualShock 3 (PS3 controllers) worked great on SteamOS just plugged in with a USB cable (I use them along with my Steam controller for multiplayer), but I thought a GOL article said that the bluetooth connectivity would never work for Dualshock 3; only Dualshock 4's bluetooth was expected to be gotten to work.
I'd love to test it myself, but I'm away from home away from my SteamOS machine. :(
Apparently that make the pairing process exactly the same as it is with a PS3, which is great.
