New Steam Client Beta up with Linux updates, Valve prepping Proton 5.0-5

Quoting: CorbenHopefully Proton 5.0-5 will also include patches to get Doom Eternal up and running, but maybe it also needs a gpu driver update. At least with 5.0-4 it seems not to work so far.
Well, maybe I should try Doom Eternal on Stadia. Really a pity Bethesda is not interested in supporting Desktop Linux, though ID Software once released well working Linux binaries for their games (Doom 3, Quake 4, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars...).
Otherwise, HL:A will be the next hype game to be played ;)
I'm a bit confused. Is Doom Eternal working or not on Protom yet? Unless denuvo is supported in proton I'm guessing we will have to wait like we did with Doom?

Half-Life: Alyx support for Linux aiming to arrive with Vulkan support post-release

Kinda surprised they aren't going with Vulkan from launch, I wonder if they have issues to iron out with that renderer first?

Just need some nice soul to do a GUI app that also sets it system wide ,
There's already a GUI called GOverlay.

Ambitious Half-Life remake Black Mesa is now officially available and it's a beauty

I bought a copy a few years back. Been waiting for them to finish the game before I did a play through tho. Did they ever add Vulkan support? If not I will be playing it through Proton as last time I checked it was way faster than Opengl.

Distro news: Arch gets a new leader and Manjaro has a new release

I love Arch linux, took me a few years before I had the confidence to build my own install, but it's been well worth it. You learn a lot more by doing stuff yourself and if things ever go wrong, you have a better idea of how to fix it.

Quoting: egeeHave people actually used this or are people talking about how cool it is and then moving on?

It doesn't seem to work for me at all. I'm reluctant to open an issue on the GitHub repo because I'm curious if other people are having issues with it first.

The install instructions on the readme don't work and installing it via the release file doesn't appear to do anything.

Can folks confirm that it is working and maybe provide some screenshots?
No.. It does work & really well. I have it installed system wide on my Arch setup

Quoting: hammadnadeemxHow to enable this with lutris for other non steam games ?
If you got it installed system wide, it should be as simple as adding the environment variable under system options tab as MANGOHUD   1

I just tried MANGOHUD with Grim Dawn on Steam. Works like a charm, looks much cleaner than DXVK_HUD. I like that you can toggle it on and off with F12, although minor annoyance I've had to change the screenshot binding in steam.
Nice work! =)

Quoting: ShmerlI'd prefer developers improving Mesa HUD instead of forking and then not upstreaming things.
I believe this is FlightlessMango's [External Link] HUD? He modified DXVK_HUD and added stuff to it originally, but I believe the stuff he added wasn't of interest to the upstream project. I agree with you, its better to see this work go upstream but sometimes this work is rejected for whatever reason.

Have an Intel processor? Enjoy two more vulnerabilities

For all the security flaws Intel have, they generally have better support than AMD (on the CPU side). AMD always seem to be a few months behind on adding needed features to the Kernel. They need to start getting ahead with software and take advantage of the performance and security dominance they're having right now.
