MangoHud, a new open source Vulkan overlay layer for gaming on Linux

I just tried MANGOHUD with Grim Dawn on Steam. Works like a charm, looks much cleaner than DXVK_HUD. I like that you can toggle it on and off with F12, although minor annoyance I've had to change the screenshot binding in steam.
Nice work! =)

Quoting: ShmerlI'd prefer developers improving Mesa HUD instead of forking and then not upstreaming things.

I believe this is FlightlessMango's HUD? He modified DXVK_HUD and added stuff to it originally, but I believe the stuff he added wasn't of interest to the upstream project. I agree with you, its better to see this work go upstream but sometimes this work is rejected for whatever reason.

Have an Intel processor? Enjoy two more vulnerabilities

For all the security flaws Intel have, they generally have better support than AMD (on the CPU side). AMD always seem to be a few months behind on adding needed features to the Kernel. They need to start getting ahead with software and take advantage of the performance and security dominance they're having right now.

Psyonix are ending support for Rocket League on both Linux and macOS (updated)

I haven't played Rocket League very much, but this just stinks after how long it took to get a good port on Linux. I knew Epic buying them out was bad news. Yes we have proton that will probably be able to get the game running on Linux long term, but this is a massive step backwards.

Valve give a little more info on what 'Gamescope' actually does for Linux gaming

Am I understanding that correctly? Can it run alongside a Gnomes mutter compositor, so that regular gnome desktop users can reap the benefits too?

The first DXVK release of 2020 is here with plenty of D3D9 improvements

The major issues with Starcraft 2 appear to be fixed now. (Certain glitches, shadows missing etc) Still experience some crashes with custom maps, but haven't had any issues with the campaign mode and official maps.
Great work by Joshua & Philip as always, much appreciated! :D

Quoting: t3gI heard that the native version has FPS issues and you get better performance by installing the Windows version with Proton and D9VK.

Last time I tried native with Xen update it didn't work at all. I did try briefly d9vk and that seems to run really well. I've been waiting for the entire project to be complete before I started my play through.

Quoting: poke86That statement makes it sound like they got bored of their own game...

I think it sounds more like excitement over working on a Half Life project.

Epic Games have awarded the FOSS game manager Lutris with an Epic MegaGrant

It's weird, I used to be a massive fan of Epic games, right from the days of Epic Pinball, Jazz Jackrabbit and the original Unreal. They had people working there back then that cared about Linux and supported it to some degree, but as they've grown, they've lost their way, sold out to foreign investors and generally not a nice company they once were. I'm not saying they owe the Linux community anything, but they've invested about as little as possible into Vulkan and Linux with their own Unreal Engine, it's took outside developers to come in and fix things up for them. So while it's nice Lutris has some money for a well deserved project, this really is chump change to Epic.

Quoting: RussianNeuroMancerSo they ported Red Dead Redemption 2...
Maybe they're just using something like Proton with the games Vulkan renderer for this title.

It's nice to see more games come out with Vulkan renderer as an option, although I do wish it was the default api.
