Can only bee good if one of the bigger names start shipping with something else then Gnome as standard DE. Gnome is simply not the best first impression DE, IMHO (To much learning coming from somewhere else and to limited features once you get serious) and is to widely endorsed for what it is or has become over the last years - although for some people the shoe may fit. If the better known distros Ship with different default Desktops and polish their respective user experience a bit, we can only profit.

It's actually more popular than Firefox overall, going by multiple stats websites.

funny: .deb and .rpm where everyone else is trying to clutter the SSD with fatpaks and snaps - although this might actually be one application that I would want sandboxed if I were to use it ;-)

One would hope for an official .deb or at least an .appimage release, pretty, pretty, please?!

And true to that spirit I shouted my rejection of it into the world, that my words may become real, and it shall not define me in any way shape or form henceforth. ;-)

Is DE bashing considered a hobby by now? Really boring.
I really like gnome shell but usually prefer alternative applications to stuff like Nautilus(?Files?), Evolution, etc. I'm currently on KDE, but maybe I'll switch back to gnome, soon :)
Nope, I was just sharing my feelings when exposed to it - someone told me it's all about the feels these days ;-). Was not supposed to have an influence on your opinion. Feel free to like whatever you do, but be aware that, you liking it, does not mean it can not anger or confuse me.

Valve rolls out big Steam client update with new Downloads Page & Storage Management

Quoting: SchattenspiegelInteresting: with SSD + HDD(raid0) ~ 1 minute
with SSD only ~ 12 seconds
to load the client.
Edit:
And for reasons unknown the loading time stays at 12 second after remounting the HDDs even after rebooting :woot:
Thank you very much! I would never have tried that.
HDD went to sleep and motor powered down? When remounting, the drive would be woken up.
nope: I had the slow start problem for quite a few months now (one of the Steam patches). Neither library repair, changing between beta and stable client nor removal/addition of the Steam-libraries was able to fix it. It seems starting Steam with HDD (containing one of the libraries) unmounted caused some configuration file to be rewritten which fixed the problem.

Might be raw single core power. Whatever it does the first minute or so it only seems to utilize one core at a time.
I've got below 10 seconds I think. My processor (Ryzen 3700X is it) cannot be that stronger. :D
well, core2quad here with 2.66 GHz so, yes, it hopefully is otherwise I will never have a reason to upgrade ;-)
We managed to solve the issue (see above) and I am now down to ~12 seconds.
