Clearly the Todd's Loading Screen Simulator is number one in 'innovative gameplay' category.
Must have been a sad year for gaming considering the finalists... .
Should I have overloocked a hidden gem in one of the categorys one may graciously accept my humble apology for my ignorance.

HDR support for KDE Plasma 6 seems to be shaping up nicely

Still funny that HDR is pushed by multiple parties without agreeing to one standard to make it a hassle free plug an play solution for the end-user first. But nice to see some advancement being made on Linux nonetheless. Keep up the good work!

Grand Theft Auto VI trailer is live but no mention of a PC release yet

I assume, if they had finally found someone to fix their control schemes for them, they would have put it front and center in the trailer, would they have not? Looks and sounds kind of nice, though if you ignore the animation. ;-)

VKD3D-Proton 2.11 released with DirectX Raytracing enabled by default

Quoting: KROMHopefully with the next Proton Experimental, but I guess GloriousEggroll will be first.

I finally got a new graphics card capable of ray-tracing and restarted Cyberpunk with patch 2.0, only to find out that RT will crash my computer *sadpanda*
Don't worry to much raytracing makes a lot of scenes look more unrealistic and wrong than the traditional lighting in that game.

Squadron 42 finally 'feature complete', CIG talk up Vulkan support for Star Citizen

Quoting: ShmerlFreelancer isn't highly acclaimed without a reason. It's a really good game.
Quoting: slaapliedjeThe only reason I didn't care for Freelancer as much as I otherwise would have was the switch to a mouse for the controls. Back in the day, I had loved the hell out of Starlancer, and played it with a force feedback joystick (which I've now acquired a Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro to play again!)

It would have been nice if someone had hacked in flight stick support to Freelancer.

Admittedly this ^ for a good part. While for the same reason it is remembered fondly for a lot of people since it opened up the genre for a wider audience it took quite a bit away for existing fans of it. It was also annoyingly balanced resulting in constantly getting dragged out of a lane by a pirate that then exploded in a single volley. Don't remember the story or missions being outstanding either, but it has been a while. Earlier games like 'Privateer' or 'Strike Commander' worked better for this particular game formula, while games like 'Tie Fighter' and 'Freespace' had better much better mission design and gameplay.

Well at least their delays keep my hardware costs low. When they first announced their kickstarter in 2012 I was thinking: with AAA gaming intensely licking it's own backside, SC could finally be a reason to upgrade my aging hardware. After all I quite liked Robert's previous work with the exception of that highly acclaimed atrocity 'Freelancer'.
Admittedly I caved in an upgraded this year (the double A games started to be a bit to demanding for the old rig), but if they they keep doing business as usual, I expect quite a lot of mileage out of this toaster as well.
The sad part is that the Joystick market has been offering the same shitty consumer hardware for the last 20 years with no change in sight So I am not even that sure I am interested anymore.

Harebrained Schemes and Paradox Interactive to split
18 October 2023 at 6:03 pm UTC

Never liked Paradox Interactive due to their EULA and push to require connection to their servers for multiplayer games that traditionally had LAN or peer-to peer options, plus their DLC model - so maybe parting ways is not a bad thing here. Harebrained Schemes on the other hand has quite an interesting portfolio of diamond in the rough games with just the right amount of magic sauce - so best of wishes for their future endeavors wherever their road may take them!

Epic Games' new exclusive deal gives devs 100% for 6 months
24 August 2023 at 12:30 am UTC Likes: 2

All EGS has archived over the last years is reducing developer income by swamping the marked with way to many free games that drain away the one limited resource: disposable time. While exclusive deals are annoying from a User perspective in the past their exclusive deals where kind of early access status anyway and if that leads to more polished games entering a less overhyped open marked a few months later this might be a net gain for consumers.
Still smells a bit desperate, does it not?
