Valve have released a new Steam Beta Client with a richer Discord-like chat interface

What?
If that's not clear enough, here's exactly what Valve said:
Steam voice chat was rewritten from the ground up with a new WebRTC-based backend. As a result, voice chat uses high quality Opus encoding, voice traffic is encrypted, and all traffic is sent through Steam servers rather than directly to peers. This keeps your IP address private, which masks your physical location and also prevents network attacks.
Fair enough, webrtc is not in of itself, secure though. There's no denying group communications is hard (ask Jitsi), but moving from realtively decentralized to hosted media bridges it introduces other problems, some of which are legal but also simple logistics. If two friends are in the same network, there's no reason to send their data to a 3rd party for example.

To be clear, I _haven't_ used the beta nor seen the protocol. Bit skeptical based on Valve's history though. It's only very recently that they even used SSL on their store at all (only the checkout was).
Fair enough, but I believe I understand why this change was needed. For a long time any application that would directly connect you to (and expose) an other players IP has been abused (ddos etc). Making sure that the players IP no longer reaches anyone should make these kind of problems rarer :)

Quoting: toorI'm subscribed to the beta, but no update available
It didn't tell me that I had an update available. I had to just restart steam, which got it to update without telling be that there was an update :)

SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Classics now officially supports Linux with a big update & price drop
12 Jun 2018 at 7:16 pm UTC

I'm talking about a game that forgot to add a SteamOS logo to their game, while supporting linux officially and properly.

EDIT: Let me clarify. There is no steamos icon, but the game still works perfectly on linux (if you already had it before the linux support was added you might need to reinstall it to make it work).

Personally I dislike it when they don't have a proper linux logo for their games, but at least they mention the fact that they support linux in the patch notes, so I'm satisfied.

I see the article saying "is now officially available on Linux" but I have no idea what it's talking about. The game is definitely not available on Linux. If the author is indeed seeing it available for Linux then it means it's region locked. I live in Canada.
I should check again, but when I saw it appear I installed it and there was barely anything there. Definitely no executable. I'm also not entirely sure how I got that one game from the package, but it was definitely not a store purchase. I had a quick peek at SteamDB and noticed there are quite a few packages that have not been updated to include the Linux depot. So it is possible that I got one of those. Maybe something similar applies to you.
I read somewhere that some people had to uninstall and install the game again to get the linux executable to show up. :)

It's most definitely available on linux:

So, it sounds like it's region locked then.

They weren't. All the audience shots were either staged or taken from stock footage. Some of them were clearly in different rooms. Not sure why they prioritize that over, you know, talking about the games.

They seriously could have given three links to YouTube, and you'd know more about what they're offering.
I think they did awesome, it's not as dry or "look at this shiny thing" as all of the other conferences. They are entertaining, interesting and mock things. It's great and I respect them greatly for it.

Quoting: tuubiI don't think fraud attempts, hate mongering and racism need a legitimate platform, and neither does extremism of any sort.
Your extremism is somebody elses mainstream. And "not giving extremism a platform" is thus nothing else but an extremist position in itself.
Extremism isn't the same as having an unpopular opinion and it should never be allowed to be mainstream. You can be a staunch supporter of anarchist ideology for example. That's perfectly fine, regardless of how you feel about their opinions, and they should be allow to argue their stance. Or you can be an extremist advocating violent protests or let's say terror attacks on state infrastructure. The latter does not deserve a platform nor should it be tolerated.
I might be misunderstanding here, but "Advocating terror attacks" would very likely end up in the "illegal" part of the blog post.
