The one downside of Arch keeping me right up to date is the rare occasion where an upstream bug will slip through.

Quoting: XpanderUsually I'd agree that drivers should be kept up to date... In this particular case I had to downgrade to 367.27 since .35 was giving me a blank screen once the boot finished.Quoting: m2mg2Nvidia driver 367??? That isn't even Fedora repo's. I only uninstalled the repo binary driver 35-something and compiled the binary from Nvidia a couple of weeks ago to get Vulkan support. Are they using Vulkan, what would the reason to require such a recent driver be? Seems like the majority of Linux users would not have this version, am I wrong?367.27 is quite old already, 367.35 is a thing atm
i don't know why some distros hold back driver updates... its just stupid imo

Mainly the money likely doesn't go anywhere near the dev, and almost certainly never goes to the porting house. There is also the question of whether the codes were legally obtained in the first place.

Quoting: TheRiddickI managed to get the XCOM2 Deluxe for sale from another site (kinguin)Generally it's not a great idea to buy from resellers like Kinguin and G2A for a number of issues outlines in a couple editorials here. See also: google [External Link]

Quoting: FUltraI'm fairly sure I heard somewhere they had re-written minecraft in a compiled language for the win10 store (and that it performed better than the java version)Quoting: AnxiousInfusionI think that the version equality will be there for a long time since it's the same version due to Minecraft being a Java application. Of course they could always try and force the XBOX version as the only version (guessing here that that version is not written in Java) but there is nothing that indicates that this is on the road map.Quoting: PlintslchoThere're people way older than you are that still greatly enjoy Minecraft, believe me. ;-)Ironically, the only people who are adamant that Minecraft is for kids are those who were recently children/young teens. That said, I am pleased to see Minecraft still works well on Linux even though it is owned by Microsoft. I can only wonder how much longer this version equality will last and so I've been cozying up real close to Minetest lately.
Intel & Nvidia Fermi Mesa OpenGL driver has now finished up OpenGL 4.3 support

Quoting: MyeulCOuI must have been under the (wrong) impression that all the mesa drivers were using the same abstraction - or that all the open source kernel drivers were outputting the same low level API..Quoting: mattsturgeonWell, there are of course device specific drivers in the kernel, but in userspace too, because you need to generate machine code tailored to the one you will be running it on. Drivers that use Gallium 3D, which acts as an abstraction layer for device functionality, can be used to share some common code between drivers, thus sometimes enabling features for multiple drivers as a time (think about syntax evolutions, for example, like array of arrays. Once you did the code to handle it, which is based on previous driver code, it enables it in multiple drivers). Intel is not using Gallium, though, so they have to do their their own thing in i965.Quoting: edounless you use haswell, in which case nothing changes, not until the release after this oneAre you saying this is only for broadwell and newer? (I've got a sandy bridge (i5-2450M) laptop)
I was under the impression mesa was the userspace side and device specific drivers were in the kernel (not that I've actually looked into it!)
Thanks for the info :)

Damn that was fast! It's not even been announced yet on Feral's twitter...
It is up on steam [External Link] and listed in their "linux games" [External Link] list though, to be fair.
Nice to see you had a pre-release review copy. :)

* Nvidia added initial experimental vulkan support in some 355 drivers.
* Later they started the 364 linux beta branch, the first of which being 364.12 with vulkan, mir/wayland and kms support [External Link].
* Then they updated the beta driver to 364.15 [External Link] which fixed some bugs.
* Finally they released a vulkan specific update to 364; 364.16 [External Link]...
* To make things more confusing, in that time they also released 361.42 [External Link] in the stable 361 branch to fix some bugs!
* Even worse there is also a "short lived branch"; 358.16 [External Link].
So to summarise there are three (main) nvidia drivers currently; 361.42 for "stable/361", 364.15 for "beta/364" and 364.16 for "vulkan-specific-beta/364". You could also use the "Short Lived Branch," currently 358.16 [External Link].
Take your pick!

But I can't figure out, if this is Beta or not. The latest version, I can find, is 364.15 (beta).
