Microsoft is rumoured to be looking to buy Valve, EA and others

I'm with Liam, I just don't see Valve selling to MS. Maybe I'm naive but I don't see what people in charge have to gain from it, I'd imagine they lead comfortable enough lives in the shadow of Steam the endless money machine to be tempted to exchange all the leverage they've got for just more instant money.

Also I actually don't see what MS has to gain for the stated goal of boosting the Xbox game library from buying Valve. Valve aren't particularly productive as a game developer these days... are they literally hoping to essentially cannibalize Steam and make every new good game that was coming to Steam an Xbox exclusive instead or something?

Their desire to buy Valve is an admission of weakness, though, which pleases me.

Oh, and yeah, Sony are very smart about their exclusives.

Quoting: GuestLife is Strange: Before the storm would be an insta-buy. I'm just curious if we would get a chance to recieve the "bonus" Max episode. AFAIK the bonus episode was available only for those who preordered the game. I would preorder it instantly but I don't buy anything until it has an official Linux support.
It's actually a very interesting question.

Here's an interesting announcement the developers made on Steam about the bonus episode and upcoming boxed editions. [External Link] It doesn't directly answer your question but to my mind it does suggest that if we're correct about this game being the game Feral is porting, it's very likely that their release will be synchronized with this release. After all Feral are experienced Linux porting professionals who are porting a game made in friggin' Unity, how hard can it be? They definitely should be able to make that deadline. Which in turn suggests, that this boxed edition might actually end up being multiplatform. Or that there will be some sort of digital equivalent sold by Feral. Or that we might simply never get the bonus episode. :V

I do hope it's eventually resolved and clarified one way or another.

Quoting: g000hBut how do the 'Garibaldi' and 'Gimme Shelter' clues combined work out?
The song starts with the line mentioning storm (and arguably other elements that can be found in the game) and as saclautaa points out Garibaldi, Oregon is literally the location that inspired Arcadia Bay in Life is Strange [External Link].

Ok, so apparently "it's just a shot away" is a line from Rolling Stones's song Gimme Shelter. The lyrics contain the line "Oh, a storm is threat'ning" which could be taken as a hint to Life is Strange: Before the Storm. There are also references to fire which is a prominent symbolic element in that game. So here's hoping. Because it's a great game, one that I actually ended up liking more than the original.

No idea what the hell the cookie (?) represents though.

Meh, Lutris is already amazing, I'd rather see it grow to its full potential and attract users from everywhere to be honest.

Super recommended. One of the best games in the history of the genre. Really happy this happened, with Linux support no less.

I still have that one in the original shrink wrap - never did get around to trying it (I have soooo many games with nowhere near enough time). Is it really good?
It's a little more fun to me than Eye of the Beholder since it does away with all the D&D stuff and replaces it with very simple straightforward gameplay. Equip weapons, use regenerating mana to cast spells, your healing spell can easily heal characters out of death and so on. It's fun enough if you don't mind a somewhat slow repetitive chill first person labyrinth crawler (most of it takes place out in the woods so I can't really say dungeon crawler). But it's less fun than Lands of Lore 2 which is like a proper action RPG in 3D with an interesting premise and live action characters. Also while it definitely has that Westwood charm it's not quite as distinct and mesmerizing as the Kyrandia games. So I wouldn't say it's really good, but it's nice enough when you want something to just zone out in.

I guess they have been gone too long; us old farts are showing our age. :)

Eye of the Beholder series (early dungeon crawler), Dune II (early RTS before Warcraft), Kyrandia series (adventures in the vein of Daedalic), Command & Conquer series (I think most people know these, at least), Blade Runner (I deigned to have Windows 95 on a Jaz drive just to play this - wouldn't infect my hard drive!).

Yet another great studio murdered by EA.
Aye.
You probably already know that ScummVM has support for the Kyrandia, Eye of the Beholder series and Lands of Lore 1, so you can play those natively on Linux, but there is also support for Blade Runner in development. I don't know how well it's going, but I'm hopeful.
