'Enclave', the 2003 action RPG now has a Linux beta that uses Wine
9 Oct 2016 at 9:01 am UTC Likes: 1

Between all the Wine "ports" we could get this one is the most useless in my opinion..

The game uses Directx 8 or OpenGL 3 as can be seen on PcGamingWiki [External Link]

The question is:
Why the hell are they using Wine if the game has native OpenGL support??
Are there some middleware that prevent a true native port?

You can literally install the game through Wine, change the first line of the <path-to-game>\environment.cfg file to "OpenGL" and boom, you have your native game..

ps. I still didn't play the "native" port because it doesn't download any content yet, but I expect nothing more that what I can do by myself..
ps2. found the code, I'm downloading it now, 1.6GB (+ Mono installation) vs the 1.4GB Windows version..
ps3. I tried the "native" game and for what I tried on both versions it runs 100% like the Windows OpenGL version through vanilla Wine (1.9.20)

Sorry if I'm being rude here, but I can't really stand when Wine usage is bashed when it applies to incompatible games that will never be ported, but the same usage get praised when it applies to "ports" like this one.

The game is potentially native, there is no need for a compatibility layer because the game is compatible (unless middleware).
Personally, I would rather get a native port this time then 200+MB more for the ability to launch the game from the Linux Steam client..

AMD's radeonsi driver is really close to having full OpenGL 4.4 support, with OpenGL 4.5 already done

As an AMD user I'm extremely happy about this!
The development is constantly improving and thanks to the open-sourceness we can enjoy and incorporate many other projects and external improvements, such as Gallium Nine or the mentioned Vulkan.

If they can get closer to the Nvidia performances and provide us a good Nvenc counterpart, then for sure maaaany people would switch to AMD!

This is a killer bundle!
I already own them all so I'm passing this time.
It's also a great occasion for anyone who doesn't have too much money and can't buy them full price, the guys at Feral will surely be happy if their games are played, anyway I hope they get a cut!

COH 1 runs great on Wine, and for 1€ it would be a crime to miss it!

I'm very happy for Dawn of War II, Feral did really a great job!
The port runs great and it's definitely a good advertisement for our platform.

Who knows, maybe the guys @ CDProject will change their mind if we get other great ports!

Good luck to Feral for Deus Ex, if they can provide us with a decent port, then we will sure have another impact to the close-source people out there :)

I'm a big Wine advocate and play many non-Native games thanks to it, anyway it's always a pleasure to see a new port coming, and really something to celebrate, even if it works properly under Wine.

Can't wait to test it on AMD :)

Also, I don't really know how things work for Feral but I guess they don't select a game to port, they probably receive some proposals from a publisher and then choose to port it or not.
Sega is behind Dawn of War II and also behind some other Feral ports (some Total War, Company of Heroes 2, Alien Isolation).

Quoting: boltronicsIf they wanted to truly release Warhammer games for a new audience, they should have ported Space Marine! That's a game that does not work under Wine, probably only because of copy protection.
this one?
