No Man’s Sky has a teaser for the 'Echoes' update to celebrate 7 years

Maybe I should try it again. I think I played it around the "Expeditions" update. I just admit, I'm not really into the surival-craft genre/game mechanic, so maybe the game isn't for me. But I love all things scifi and I played through the story (it was interesting).

Quoting: NezchanI like where they've gone, although I keep holding out hope that they'll overhaul the space stations, alien bases and similar stuff to make all that more immersive. Almost every other aspect has been re-done, it's time that one got some attention.
That would be my primary complaint. The locations to visit and poi's to explore are all the same. I did enjoy the variety in the planets and Flora and fauna, but even that started to get a little samsey after a few stops.

I might give it a go on the deck. That might be fun!

That's really nice. I just got a deck and I think my biggest "issue" is deciding what to play!!

The 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard looks awesome
3 Aug 2023 at 12:01 pm UTC

For an everyday driver, I think I'd want a numpad.... But the more I think about it... I'm not sure how often I even use a numpad (especially when gaming)

Now a nice compact wireless keyboard 8 can use with the deck or Steam Link.... I think I'm interested... At 100$, that seems less expensive than other mechanical boards.

Baldur's Gate 3 on Steam Deck is 'absolutely wild' and aims for 30FPS on Medium

Quoting: HolzkohlenIt would not even fit on my Deck. I still have not upgraded my SSD. I'm looking forward to playing it on Thursday on my regular PC though. Been waiting for it for 4 years now. June 6th 2019 is when they first announced it.
I did the SSD upgrade when I got mine first thing... It was very easy!!

The only weirdness was that the gamepad controls stopped working with the recovery image and then first run initial setup after reinstalling the OS to the new SSD. I had to do everything with the touch screen. But after an update and reboot, it worked great!!

I totally recommend it! I think I got a 1Tb for less than 100$ USD

Very nice!! I never finished the original homeworld when it first came out. Might be a good chance to try it again!

CodeWeavers blog about their Linux / Steam Deck work on Proton with PooShooter

Quoting: GraminiI'm curious. IIRC these Proton files are the virtual Windows "environment" (eg. the simulated C: drive). That means that the files in there would also be present on a Windows system. But Windows doesn't allow colons in file names. So how exactly were those files created in the first place?
Likely by the system. Easiest example would be "C:". I'd figure the files are used by the system while not directly by the windows program that's trying to run.

Factorio upgraded with controller support - now in the stable release

Quoting: NezchanI'd try playing this, but I fear I don't have nearly enough brain.

Not especially good at optimization or efficiency either, so that's another strike against me.
Me neither! But I really enjoy it! It's one of very few games I've played through multiple times (twice). The second time involved some tutorials and online resources, lol

Steam Summer Sale 2023 is live with the Steam Deck up to 20% off

Quoting: gradyvuckovic20% off the 512GB Steam Deck is a hell of a deal. That thing was already well worth the price at it's normal price, but 20% off? If you don't have one I'd snap that up.
So .. it's cheaper to buy the cheapest one and upgrade the SSD yourself... But the higher end one has the "Premium anti glare etched glass"... Is that worth the extra $70USD?? I've seen anti glare protectors from Jsax for as low at 14$USD... I'm kinda curious as to the difference.

Nearly 40% of Linux gamers on Steam are on Steam Deck

Quoting: Salvatos> you usually only get the survey on one machine.
Not in my experience. I had it on two different desktops one week apart just last spring and I've had it on my laptop as well.
Got it on my Steam Deck, my laptop and my PC, this month. I decided to distro hop on my PCs and it triggered the survey for each fresh install (wasn't a fresh install for my Steam Deck).
Just to add, The survey on the Deck is probably pointless anyway. It's a known fairly fixed configuration on their own hardware. Survey or not, their numbers are prolly near 100% accurate for the Deck as it's phoning home to Valve anyway.

Either way, it's not like they can't tell you have multiple machines when they get different hardware from the same account / IP address.

Quoting: mahagrAfter the last update, for me Steam is now totally broken in my computer, fonts are huge and menus do not fit into the space they are given.
Is your computer "older"? I noticed on my older laptop (2015), Steam has gotten very sluggish this year. It takes almost 3-5 min to start (and that's with a new SSD and memory). I tend to game on my laptop, streaming from my desktop, so maybe this is their way of telling me I need to upgrade, lol.

Quoting: lukas333Steam Deck 64 + NVME is the way to go imo.
Come to think of it, how's the dock? Or is it better to still get a 3rd party one?
