Rocket League for Linux & SteamOS getting close to a release window finally
4 Jun 2016 at 10:47 am UTC Likes: 1

Well, Rocket League is a game where multi-player is important and for multi-player games, the community often shrinks when the game gets older. So the delay certainly matters and decreases the amount of money the game is worth However, the fact that recently cross-platform play with Xbox has been added should counter that, so I expect we can still have great fun with it. It should not take another 6 months though.

It is is really a shame that this game wasn't available during the Steam Controller/Machine launch, as everyone who bought a controller or Steam Machine experienced that they couldn't play this game.

I will still be purchasing it, because I have learned to resist the temptation to dual boot, it looks like a good game and to reward developers for supporting Linux. I might not pay full price though and wait for a sale, as it is an older game by now. Hope they do a sale on Linux launch.

Dead Island Definitive Edition and Dead Island Riptide: Definitive Edition released, seem to have hidden Linux versions

Large XFS file systems use 64-bit inodes, which don't fit in 32-bit data structures used by 32-bit software. It is a known XFS problem. If you run 32-bit applications on XFS (many games are 32-bit), you need to make sure you use 32-bit inode when you create the filesystem.

Legends of Eisenwald being ported to Linux by Codeweavers, will use Wine

Quoting: edoSo its still not a concern. And wine ports for recent titles like this one (and their future games) are still not a good thing, too many of them can damage linux gaming
Developers using Wine is a completely different situation than end-users using Wine. First, it is fully supported and it is "batteries included", game runs out of the box. Second, developers can wrap the Windows game, but also compile the source code against Wine libraries. The latter allow applications to behave much more like real Linux applications that are aware of your Linux filesystem. Third, Wine is open source and Codeweavers doing the port allows them to tweak and performance tune Wine for this game.

If this is all done, Wine becomes much more a translation layer like Eon is than a Windows emulator (please don't start that discussion).

Feral Interactive are teasing another new Linux & Mac port with a new clue

There are multiple ways to solve the Mac problem:
- Modify the engine to work with a lower OpenGL version
- Use a Vulkan to Metal translation layer
- Write a Metal renderer

So I don't see Mac support ruling out Doom in any way, just slightly decreasing the chance, but on the other hand the Earth-808 / Victor von Doom reference sounds very convincing to me, IMO it is the strongest explanation of the 808 I have read here.

Feral Interactive officially announce F1 2015 is coming to Linux on May 26th, properly this time

Obvious reasons why the Mac port could be delayed are the poor state of OpenGL on Mac, more workarounds to support older OpenGL versions might be necessary. I'm sure Feral are not delaying Mac versions if there isn't a good reasons. Consider news like this as signs that Linux is becoming a better OS for games than MacOS X.

Quoting: dmantioneVolition now have a relation with Virtual Programming, so it would not make a lot of sense that Feral would do such a port.
I don’t think Volition had anything to do with the Linux ports; Saints Row was published by Deep Silver
Volition didn't do the work, but comments on the Steam forums indicate that people from Volition and Virtual Programming are in close contact with each other. Based on what I read there I also conclude that Volition and not the publishers own the rights to these games.

Volition now have a relation with Virtual Programming, so it would not make a lot of sense that Feral would do such a port. I think the link with Earth 808 / Victor von Doom. is a strong one. They are porting Doom. And because they just need to feed it to a compiler, they can put it in the "really soon" section immedeately.
