Dell set to introduce beefed up Steam Machines

An AMD based Steam Machine does have a chance to be sold below $350. And it will likely have exactly what people here are asking for: A weaker CPU and a quite powerfull GPU.

Cities: Skylines - Match Day, a free DLC to add a Stadium to your city

It nicely done, it does much more than "just a building". Like it. However, a DLC that allows you to build just one building?

Things I feel Valve need to address to help SteamOS really be something fantastic

Quoting: 0aTTThey now serve just the community itself.
I agree with this, but the fact that they are showing Linux advertisements (not Steam, not SteamOS, but Linux) to any people that are downloading their client, is a sign that they not only want to serve the community, but want the community to grow.

I also observe that there are more and more games that are ported to Linux but not to MacOS. See PayDay2 for example. I think SteamOS as a reference platform makes porting much easier.
Yes. I think we can declare victory over MacOS as a gaming platform. Sure, Mac market share is higher than Linux market share, but we have:
- Better gaming hardware (Steam machines included)
- Better OpenGL support
- Vulkan
- Better drivers
- Wine
- And since a while: Games that are ported to Linux, but not Mac

Go to http://store.steampowered.com [External Link] and click on "install steam", you will end up here:

http://store.steampowered.com/about/ [External Link]

There is a big Ubuntu advertisement there, recommending every Windows user to try Ubuntu. Yes, the page appears the same to Windows users, checked that. As long as any Windows user that wants to install Steam has to view a Linux advertisement, I don't think there can be any question that Linux is still important to Valve.

Therefore I don't buy arguments that Linux wasn't the goal. It was and is the goal. It looks like it has more been turned into a long term plan though.

Quoting: OverlordPlus for the first point u noted, all i have to say im a tiny man.even if i become a super linux fanboy and avoid everything in the world exept for linux branding.it wont create an avalance on
market share. The devs needs to get their ass moving first.
Avalanche not, but influence, oh yes. Why would developers move their ass if you give them your money unconditionally?

The Talos Principle updated, 32bit support for Vulkan and more Vulkan optimizations
11 Jun 2016 at 5:04 pm UTC Likes: 2

The reason why 32-bit Vulkan support was added has likely to do with GPU driver development. Vulkan is one of the few real-world games with Vulkan support, if you are a driver developer you want to test The Talos Principle on your driver. Now that TTP supports Vulkan in 32-bit, GPU manufacturers can also test their 32-bit drivers.

By the way 32-bit CPUs are history, perhaps even ancient history, but 32-bit software not yet. There is a lot of software that cannot be simply recompiled to 64-bit, nor is 64-bit needed for all software. So we will likely still encounter 32-bit applications on a regular basis during the next decade.

Im honestly saying i really want linux to conquer windows hagemony.Still im not yet a fully linux user but im keeping track of it.Why?simple reason, compitibility issues. Most of my go to software is not supported on linux.Heck even the software my 3g modem uses does not run on linux(had to use wine, which is a drag). No matter what ppl say about linux ,its still a long way behind compared to the support windows get from developers.
Vote with your wallet, my friend. I am sure there are Linux compatible 3G modems. Seems you have bought first, then started to look at Linux compatibility. The developer/manufacturer already has your money, so there is no reason for him to change behaviour. You did vote Windows. Buying Linux compatible hardware and software is the only way you are going to make developers support Linux.

I know gaming on linux might be a thing in a distant future,
You are exagerating. Gaming on Linux is a thing now and it is great. It works, there are many games and if you wouldn't know about that other big operating system, there would be little to complain about.

Volition say it's too early to tell if Agents of Mayhem will come to Linux

I think Vulkan is not that likely because of the platforms they target: Windows, Xbox, Playstation. Only if they want to support Win7 with a modern engine, Vulkan comes into picture, but they likely use an existing engine. Big chance that if there will be a Linux version, they put Virtual Programming on the job. Then it depends on wether VP have time and see business in it.

8 out of the 10 current most popular Steam games support Linux
7 Jun 2016 at 9:54 am UTC Likes: 1

I have been watching the list of most popular games as well and noted before that Linux had a high share there. Also in the top 20 the Linux share is still high.

Another statistic that I am monitoring is the "popular new releases", because those are the games people buy and lack of availability pushes people away from Linux.

13 out of 30 games ~ 43%

Also a really promising share!
