I had such a feeling with The Talos Principle: I have played many fantastic games since the start of my gaming career on the Commodore 64, but I can't think of a greater masterpiece than TTP. And the entire superb experience all natively on Linux, in full glory.
Interview with Timothee Besset, formerly of id Software, who helped port Rocket League to Linux

However, I believe that at some point, Valve realised it is not possible to go this fast: They didn't enough support from third party game developers and hardware manufacturers. The fact that it was much harder to developer a good Steam Controller than they initially thpught may also have contributed to this.
The lack of hype around the Steam Machine launch was remarkable, and I think at that point Valve knew they couldn't conquer the world by storm.
It's kind of comforting that Timothee Besset states what many of us suspected, Valve still believe in Linux gaming, and are playing the long game. If Valve would have given up, Timothee would know it. This means that the lack of activity on SteamOS is not worrying at all.
The theory that Valve is internally developing on an unstable version of SteamOS and just releases small updates to the stable version is IMO also becoming more plausible.

Quoting: MaCroX95They did not mean to take over the Market with steam machines in 2 years which many people seem to be thinking.I believe Valve did actually intend to takeover the market in two years. At least their behaviour was like it: They hyped SteamOS a lot, they announced many different Steam Machines. It all sounded like a "Windows 95" that was supposed to conquer the gaming market, as Gabe Newell did it back then.

My impression is that you won't get any further with modern ways of communication. If you want to find out more, you need to pick up the old fashioned phone and make him talk ;)

Yes, it is really important, because strengthens the position of Linux as a game development platform, not just gaming platform. And the platform that is used for development also sees the first releases, so this is a step towards more day one releases or early access for Linux.
Of course, only if developers like to develop on Linux, but then again... Linux is a true paradise for developers.

So Valve do driver updates and security fixes. That's exactly what you would expect for maintaining a stable version. What if Valve are doing real development on an unstable version?
I know, it is just a theory... and if true Valve would have been hiding it quite well, since there is really so sign of an unstable version. Still, it would make perfect sense.

It's really addictive, I can recommend it. Unfortunately the game has a bugs that it crashs if the LANG environment variable is set and does not contain a "."
If this affects you, launch the game outside Steam with:
unset LANG
./runner
... then it should no longer crash. (Steam startup options with "LANG= %command%" doesn't help unfortunately.)

Quoting: wintermuteThat's also what I read: Steam does show Linux sales for games not available on Linux.Quoting: TuxeeSince there is only a Windows version it will be counted as Windows sale, regardless of being installed or played. That's not what the developer of the Stanley Parable said [External Link]. Buy it on Linux, don't play it for a week, Steam counts it as a Linux sale. Whether the publisher cares about Steam's stats is another matter.

The irony: Your purchase will count as Windows sale.Well: If the purchase was done on Linux and not played in the first week, it still is a Linux sale. However, it also depends on how the publisher interprets statistics, and for a game not available on Linux... he might just add up the numbers and treat everything as Windows.
